🇮🇪🤝🇿🇲 Strengthening Ireland–Zambia partnerships through education and professional development

The Embassy of Ireland in Zambia is pleased to support the promotion of the Professional Certificate in Dispute Resolution, partnership between Independent College Dublin and ZCAS University.

Commencing the week of 14 September, the programme will equip professionals in Zambia and the wider region with practical skills in negotiation, mediation, conflict management, and dispute resolution, while allowing participants to study flexibly alongside their careers.

This partnership represents another important step in strengthening educational cooperation between Ireland and Zambia, creating opportunities for Transnational Education (TNE) development, academic collaboration, professional training, and student development.

Congratulations to this year’s nine Ireland Zambia Fellows Program recipients !

This week, we bid farewell to an outstanding group of Zambian professionals as they embark on an exciting new journey to Ireland to begin their postgraduate studies under the Ireland Fellows Programme – Africa.

Fully funded by the Government of Ireland, the program supports talented early to mid-career professionals from partner organisations to develop the knowledge, skills and networks needed to contribute to positive change in their communities and to Zambia’s development.

This year’s Fellows will pursue studies across a range of fields, including Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security, International Human Rights Law and Public Policy, LLM, Health Sciences and Energy Systems Engineering, bringing with them diverse professional experiences and a shared commitment to making a difference.

We are proud to see these future leaders take this important step and become part of over 300 Zambians who have studies in Ireland over the past two decades.

We wish them safe travels, every success in their studies, and a memorable experience in Ireland.

Looking back at a proud milestone for Zambian sports.

A look back at the celebration last month when the victorious Sables Shamrocks arrived home to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA). The Kabwe-based squad represented Zambia in the Gaelic Athletic Association Men’s Football Division 3 Championship at the GAA World Games held in Ireland, winning all their games against teams from the US, Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Paraguay. The team were sponsored by ZAMDA, the Irish embassy and many other supporters.

The players were welcomed back by Vincent Maher, Deputy Head of Mission from the Embassy of Ireland in Zambia. Being the only African team in the tournament, the team brilliantly represented their community in Kabwe, Zambia and the continent and were lauded as the most popular of the 112 teams participating in the competition. This historic achievement directly aligns with Ireland’s priority of building stronger cultural and diaspora links in Zambia, while fostering the immense potential of young people through sport.

Ireland is delighted to partner with the World Health Organization and Ministry of Health to support Zambia’s preparedness for Ebola. This contribution of EUR 250,000 (ZMW 5.4 million) will protect communities by supporting early detection and cross-border monitoring across 14 points of entry. 🇮🇪🤝🇿🇲

🇿🇲🤝🇮🇪 Ireland strengthens Zambia's Ebola preparedness

Today, World Health Organization Zambia and the Embassy of Ireland, Zambia marked the signing of an additional EUR 250,000 (approx. ZMW 5.4 million) contribution from Irish Aid to WHO to strengthen Zambia's preparedness for Ebola and other public health threats.

The funding will, among others support the operationalization of national Ebola preparedness guidelines, introduction of Go.Data in priority districts, strengthening of disease surveillance systems, deployment of the Electronic Traveler Information and Monitoring System (eTIMS) at all 14 designated points of entry, infection prevention and control assessments, biosafety and biosecurity training, and simulation exercises to validate operational readiness.

These investments will also further enhance Zambia's capacity for early detection, reporting and investigation of suspected cases, strengthen management of alerts, cases and contacts, improve cross-border surveillance and traveler monitoring, and reinforce rapid response capacity to protect communities from Ebola and other high-consequence infectious diseases.

H.E Ambassador Aidan Fitzpatrick noted "Our additional contribution will further enhance Zambia's ability to detect, report, and respond to public health threats. We commend the Government's leadership and remain committed to supporting efforts to protect the health and wellbeing of the Zambian people".

"Preparedness remains our best defense against public health emergencies. This contribution from Ireland will strengthen Zambia's ability to detect threats early, respond rapidly, and safeguard the health of its people," said WHO Representative Dr Clement Lasuba.

WHO thanks the Government of Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland, Zambia for their continued partnership in strengthening health security and building resilient health systems in Zambia.

FROM KABWE TO WATERFORD / IRELAND!

Huge congratulations to the Sables Shamrocks on an incredible run representing Zambia at the GAA World Games in Ireland!

The Team played brilliantly in all their matches and won the GAA World Games Division 3 competition, beating teams from Europe, Asia the US and South America . During the award ceremony the team were described as the most popular team of the 112 teams participating. Throughout the tournament the team impressed all involved in the games, and the Irish public through social and national media coverage with their levels of skill and fitness and their exemplary sportman-ship and engagement with all teams and supporters. They have represented Zambia exceptionally well on the global stage. Thanks to all who turned out to cheer them on and for all who contributed to their participation and huge success.

We extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of former Vice President Hon. Dr. Guy Scott. His life was defined by service to Zambia 🇿🇲 and a deep commitment to its people.

His contribution to strengthening democratic values remains part of his lasting legacy.

Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and all those mourning his loss. May he rest in peace.
