She’s already rehearsing for tomorrow night’s event at Alliance Française.

It’s gonna be a vibrant Swe-Zam cross cultural evening with wonderful Zambian musicians Becky Chanteuse, Mr Chanx and Mumba Yachi.

Today we began our journey south. But before, we got the chance to visit the beautiful Niamkolo church in Mpulungu, built in 1895 and the oldest standing stone-built church in Zambia. Beautiful, and still with remarkable acoustics inside the ruin. What about arranging concerts here? 🎶🪉🪈

We continued three hours south and visited the absolute stunning and intriguing Mwela Rock Paintings from the Later Stone Age in Kasama. I’ve been here once before, but it was the first time for Mia.

These paintings brings so many reflections - one is that I really hope this cultural heritage will be preserved. Only since I was here some two years ago, the pictures had faded. 😢

Early start tomorrow continuing south. Wishing everyone a nice Friday night from Kasama!

Arrived at Lake Tanganyika today. What a magnificent and majestic experience! And the most beautiful of sunsets.

We also visited the Moto Moto Museum in Mbala, a really interesting and well-kept museum. I particularly enjoyed the exhibition ”The Carriers of the Great War: Northern Rhodesia’s Police and Porters in World War I.”

Mbala of course carries a lot of historical significance being the place where the First World War finally ended, some two weeks after Germany officially had surrendered.

Yesterday we came up from Chinsali to Mbala, using what must be some of Zambia’s best roads! The newly constructed road to Nakonde didn’t have a single pothole. Absolutely wonderful. And the road from Nakonde to Mbala was really excellent, too!! 💪🏽

Today we have seen the absolutely stunning and spectacular Kalambo Falls! If you have a 4WD you can get there, but the road is really bad. But the falls, WOW! 😮

I really wish many more would come and visit Kalambo Falls. This time of year they get around 20 visitors - per week. That’s incredibly low for such a wonderful sight.

And just now I captured the beautiful sunset here at Lake Chila Lodge in Mbala - a really nice place by the lake!

Today we traced Zambia’s early political history here in Chinsali, a very important place in the creation of the republic.

In the morning we visited the museum of Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe and we had his last-born, Mr Kapalakasha Kapwepwe, as our guide.

The museum opened in 2024 and is very well done and designed, and full of interesting information about Simon Kapwepwe and his role in the wider liberation struggle and early life of the Zambian nation. I highly recommend a visit!! ❤️👍

Then we drove the short seven kilometres (on a wash-board-like road 🙂) to Lubwa Mission. Here of course is the birthplace of the First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda, and also where he later studied and worked as a teacher.

We were fortunate to have Mr Siame Waimbila, Congregation Treasurer, and Mr Chintu Laston, Congregation Secretary, as our knowledgeable guides. They were very generous with their time and we learnt many interesting things about President Kaunda and his family, but also about the importance of Lubwa Mission in general for Zambia’s independence.

Finally, a food 🥘 🍕🍗 tip: there are not many restaurants to choose from in Chinsali, but Muchinga Gardens is nice!!👌 (Beware though that their location has changed - they are now on the Chinsali Access Rd, 300 m closer to town from the Mt Meru filling station, opposite side of the road)

This morning we visited Shiwa House in Shiwa Ngandu, where Sir Stewart Gore-Browne’s grandson’s wife Jo gave us a wonderful tour of the house. What an extraordinary history this place and this family has!

We continued to Chipoma Falls for selfmade simple noodle soup lunch on the camper stove and then a dip in the falls! 23 degrees in the water, is my guess. Warm and nice for a Swede used to much colder! 🤣💦

Finally we reached Chinsali, where we strolled a while at the local market and captured beautiful colours in the fading daylight!

Exploring the bird life in Mutinondo was great. Among many sightings were Ross’s Turaco and Anchieta’s Sunbird, both new to us!

Yesterday we drove up to Kapishya Hot Springs Lodge, wonderful place and surroundings! And, of course, the hot springs were lovely.

Great to meet Mark Harvey, the owner of the lodge and also the grandson of Sir Stewart Gore-Browne, the man behind ”the Africa House” at Shiwa Ngandu. That’s our destination tomorrow morning! 🌅

Three and a half hours from Serenje we reached Mutinondo Wilderness! What an amazing place. We climbed Charlie’s Rock and had an extraordinary view of the entire Miombo woodlands. Tomorrow we’re gonna explore this place some more!
