By Police News Reporter
Inspector General of Police, Mr. Graphel Musamba, has reminded officers in Muchinga Division that their duty is to serve all citizens equally, regardless of political affiliation, social status, tribe, religion, or personal beliefs, especially during the election period.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General of Police – Operations, Mr. Fred Hamaamba, delivered the message at Muchinga Division Headquarters in Chinsali yesterday.
Mr. Musamba emphasized that police officers’ loyalty is first and foremost to the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia and the Government of the day.
“We are duty-bound to uphold constitutional order, respect lawful authority, and execute our responsibilities faithfully and professionally in accordance with the laws of the Republic,” he said.
The Police Chief urged officers to respond swiftly and lawfully to political violence, intimidation, hate speech, destruction of property, public disorder, and other criminal activities that threaten peace and national security.
“Those who choose violence over peace should remember that the Police are always faster than excuses,” he cautioned. He added that offenders must be dealt with firmly and within the law, without fear or favour.
Mr. Musamba further called on officers to exercise restraint, maturity, and professionalism, ensuring that police powers are applied lawfully and proportionately. He also encouraged them to remain united, disciplined, and focused.
“Let us reject corruption, political influence, misconduct, and indiscipline. Let us conduct ourselves in a manner that brings honour, dignity, and public confidence to the Service,” he charged.
The Inspector General thanked officers for their continued sacrifices, acknowledging long hours, difficult working conditions, and time spent away from their families.
“As Inspector General, I remain committed to improving officers’ welfare through continued engagement with Government on accommodation, logistics, working conditions, promotions, medical support, and general staff welfare,” he assured.
Meanwhile, Mr. Musamba promoted 114 officers in Muchinga Division to the ranks of Sergeant, Inspector, and Chief Inspector.
He congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged those who were not promoted to remain patient and hardworking, assuring them that commitment and sacrifice would also be recognized in due course.
