LUANGWA TOWN COUNCIL MANAGEMENT HOLDS INTRODUCTORY MEETING WITH COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON

Luangwa, Feira - 15 September 2026

Luangwa Town Council Management, led by the Council Secretary, Mr. Greyson Sakala, on 14th September, 2026, held an introductory meeting with the newly elected Council Chairperson,Ms. Loveness Banda.

The meeting was held to introduce Directors and head sections to the Council Chairperson and provide an overview of the Council’s structure, departmental mandates, functions, and ongoing operations.

During the meeting, Ms. Loveness Banda expressed gratitude to Management for the warm welcome and for openly sharing the opportunities and challenges that the Council has been facing.

She emphasised the importance of respect, teamwork, openness, and cooperation, noting that the development of Luangwa District requires collective effort and can not be achieved by one office alone.

The Council Chairperson further expressed her commitment to building a strong working relationship with Management and the community, stressing that although different offices have different responsibilities, they share one common goal to develop Luangwa District and improve service delivery to the people.

Further, the Council Secretary Mr. Greyson Sakala welcomed the Council Chairperson and explained that the meeting was intended to familiarise her with the Council’s operations, functions, and the roles of various departments.

Directors and head sections subsequently introduced themselves and outlined the mandates and key responsibilities of their respective departments.

The meeting was attended by the Council Secretary, heads of Departments from Human Resource and Administration, District Health Services, Finance, Engineering, Planning, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Legal, ICT, Internal Audit, Public Relations, Procurement and Community Development.

The introductory meeting provided an opportunity for the Council Chairperson and Management to establish a working relationship and reaffirm their commitment to effective service delivery, accountability, transparency, teamwork, and sustainable development in Luangwa District.

Pictorial highlights of the Swearing-In Ceremony of the Luangwa Town Council Chairperson , the Chiefs, Area Member of Parliament and the 17 Councillors.

The ceremony included Ms. Loveness Banda the first woman in the history of Luangwa District to be elected as Council Chairperson.

His Royal Highness Senior Chief Mburuma of the Nsenga Luzi-speaking people, His Royal Highness Chief Mphuka of the Chikunda-speaking people, the Area Member of Parliament for Feira Constituency and the 17 Councillors, who are now entrusted with representing the 17 wards across Luangwa District.

The Swearing-In Ceremony was officiated by Hon. Ibrahim Tiyese Kamanga, Resident Magistrate at the Luangwa Subordinate Court.
