SHIBUYUNJI SWEARS IN NEW COUNCIL LEADERS

Shibuyunji Town Council has sworn in its newly elected leaders, including the Council Chairperson, 12 Councillors, two Members of Parliament, an Alderman and other elected leaders.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Shibuyunji Town Council Civic Centre and was presided over by Magistrate Hon. Amy Masoja.

The ceremony was attended by Senior Chief Shakumbila, Members of Parliament, Councillors, Council management, traditional leaders, the media and other invited guests.

Welcoming the newly elected leaders and guests, Council Secretary Mr Oscar Chilanga said the Council was ready to work with the new leadership in delivering quality services and promoting development in the district.

Mr Chilanga said the Council was prepared to take the lead in implementing projects that would improve the lives of residents, including the installation of solar street lights aimed at improving security and enhancing the appearance of the town.

The newly elected Council Chairperson, Mr Macmillan Shimukonka, also delivered his acceptance speech after taking the oath of office.

In his speech, the Chairperson expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and pledged to work closely with Councillors, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, Council management and other stakeholders to promote development in Shibuyunji.

He said the new leadership would focus on addressing the needs of residents and ensuring that development projects were implemented in a transparent and accountable manner.

Giving the closing remarks, Councillor Mike Luputa thanked the invited guests, traditional leaders, elected leaders, Council management and all stakeholders for attending the ceremony. He called for unity, teamwork and commitment among the new leadership as they begin their mandate to serve the people of Shibuyunji.

The swearing-in marks the beginning of a new chapter for Shibuyunji Town Council, with the newly elected leaders expected to work together to strengthen service delivery and accelerate development across the district.

With the new leadership now officially in office, Shibuyunji looks forward to renewed commitment, teamwork and practical development that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents.

SHIBUYUNJI SET TO SHINE WITH NEW SOLAR STREET LIGHTS

Shibuyunji Town Council is making progress in improving street lighting through the Roads Grant from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

The Council has engaged Eumise Engineering to install solar street lights at a cost of K890,300.53.

The solar street lights are being installed along key roads to improve visibility and safety for residents, motorists and other road users, especially at night.

The project covers the road from Mabuyu Junction to Nampundwe Secondary School, from Nampundwe Secondary School to Nampundwe Market, and from Nampundwe Market to Machiliso Clinic.

The project is expected to improve security and make movement easier for residents and motorists using these roads at night.

The installation of the solar street lights is part of the Council’s efforts to improve public infrastructure and create a safer and more accessible township for residents.

With the installation of the solar street lights, Shibuyunji Town Council is taking a practical step towards improving safety, visibility and movement within the township. The project will not only light up key roads at night but also contribute to a safer and more welcoming environment for residents and road users.

SHIBUYUNJI TOWN COUNCIL REVIEWS PROGRESS ON DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

Shibuyunji, 7 September 2026— Shibuyunji Town Council today held a management meeting to review progress on development projects, departmental programmes and service delivery across the district.

The meeting was chaired by the Council Secretary, Mr Oscar Chilanga, who delivered the opening remarks. Various departments also made submissions, providing updates on their activities, achievements, challenges and planned interventions.

The Engineering Department reported on the proposed construction of a Level One Hospital in the Chimbotela area under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). The Council noted that construction has not yet commenced, as the project is awaiting funding.

The department also provided an update on the construction of ablution blocks at Nampundwe B Primary School and Mwembezhi Secondary School under the Disaster Management component. The projects are aimed at improving sanitation facilities and the learning environment at the two schools.

The meeting further noted significant progress on the grading of the Mwembshi–Masiteki Road. The road works are expected to improve access and ease the movement of people and goods in the area.

Under Capital Projects, the Council is expected to commence the installation of street lights in Nampundwe. The project will improve visibility and contribute to enhanced safety, particularly at night.

The Council also received an update on water projects being implemented under the Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP). A total of 12 water schemes were budgeted for, with eight already completed and four remaining.

In addition, Bible Tract has rehabilitated five boreholes in the district, contributing to improved access to water for local communities.

Under the Planning Department, the meeting was informed that preparations for the establishment of Community Development Fund Committees (CDFCs) will commence soon. The CDFC members will subsequently be sworn in by the Provincial Minister.

The meeting also noted an important milestone for the Council, with Shibuyunji Town Council now a Planning Authority. This will strengthen the Council’s role in planning, development control and the orderly development of the district.

In the health sector, the Council reported that 27,744 children were vaccinated against polio through the novel Oral Polio Vaccine (nOPV) campaign. The vaccination exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to protect children against polio and promote public health in the district.

The management meeting provided an opportunity for departments to report on their programmes, share progress and highlight areas requiring attention. It also strengthened coordination among departments in support of effective service delivery.

Shibuyunji Town Council remains committed to effective service delivery and the implementation of development programmes that respond to the needs of local communities. With continued focus on infrastructure, water, health, education and planning, the Council will continue working towards sustainable development and improved living standards for the people of Shibuyunji District.
