Lundazi, 5 September 2026 — The Lundazi Fire Brigade, working in collaboration with the Zambia Police Service, has successfully rescued a day-old baby who was found alive inside an unused open well in Chinyumba Compound, Lundazi District.

According to the District Fire Division Officer Ziyelesa banda, the incident was brought to the attention of a Lundazi Public Health Inspector who, while working together with members of the community, noticed the presence of a baby inside the abandoned well.

Upon receiving the report, the Lundazi Fire Brigade and the Zambia Police promptly responded to the scene and mounted a rescue operation. The baby was successfully retrieved alive from the well.

Following the rescue, the baby was immediately transported to Lundazi District Hospital by the Fire Brigade and Police for medical assessment and further care.

The circumstances surrounding how the newborn came to be inside the unused well are currently under investigation by the Zambia Police Service. More details will be availed by the Police once investigations into the circumstances of the incident have been concluded.

Lundazi Town Council joined members of the public in spearheading the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy cleaning exercise, which focused on various trading areas within the District Central Business District (CBD).

The exercise brought together Council staff and members of the public to promote cleanliness, proper waste management and a healthy environment, while encouraging communities to take collective responsibility for keeping Lundazi clean and green.

The Council continues to encourage residents, traders and other stakeholders to make cleanliness a daily responsibility and to work together towards a cleaner, greener and healthier Lundazi.

Lundazi, 31st August 2026 — The Lundazi Fire Brigade today responded to a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) involving a motorcycle along Church Road near the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church.

The accident involved a 20-year-old male rider identified as Sylvester Kumwenda, a pupil at Kakoma Day Secondary School in Chasefu District. The motorcycle reportedly careered off the road near the SDA Church, resulting in the rider sustaining multiple injuries, particularly to the head.

The casualty was attended to by the Lundazi Fire Brigade before being rushed to Lundazi District Hospital for further medical attention.

The Fire Brigade continues to urge all road users, particularly motorcycle riders, to exercise maximum caution, observe road safety regulations and avoid behaviours that may endanger their lives and those of other road users.

Lundazi Town Council held a management meeting to review the week’s activities, assess progress, and identify key actions to be undertaken.

The meeting was chaired by the Council Secretary, Innocent Mutambo, who emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) as a guiding framework for the Council’s operations. He urged management to ensure that their activities, responsibilities, and work plans are aligned with the objectives and priorities outlined in the IDP to promote coordinated and effective service delivery.

The NRPUP has secured the Parliamentary seat and all Local Government seats in Lundazi District following the 2026 General Election.

The results were officially declared by Lundazi District Returning Officer, Joseph Mugolo, at the tallying centre.

Parliamentary Seat

Brenda Nyirenda — NRPUP: 31,315 votes
Golden Tembo — UPND: 7,693 votes

Brenda Nyirenda has therefore been declared the winner of the Lundazi Parliamentary seat.

Local Government Seats

The seven Local Government seats were retained by:

* Mkomba Ward: Captain Banda
* Nthitimila Ward: Matthews Mphande
* Vuu Ward: Esther Mtonga
* Lunevwa Ward: Patrick Mwale
* Chimaliro Ward: Clint Mwale
* Chilola Ward: John Nyirenda
* Ndonda Ward: Ephrone Nyirenda

The NRPUP also secured three newly won Local Government seats:

* Mnyamazi Ward: Emmanuel Ngulube
* Msuzi Ward: Kanyinji Andrew
* Mphamba Ward: Juba Habiba

Additionally the NRPUP candidate Kennedy Mfune has also been Duly elected as Lundazi Town Council Chairperson

BRENDA NYIRENDA WINS LUNDAZI CONSTITUENCY

Lundazi District Returning officer Joseph Mugolo has declared Brenda Nyirenda of the NRPUP winner after securing 31,315 votes against her closest opponent, Golden Tembo of the UPND, polled 7,693

She has been re- elected as the Lundazi Constituency Member of Parliament.
