ROAD PATCHING AND DRAINAGE WORKS DOMINATE REVISED CASH FOR WORK IDENTIFICATION EXERCISE
14th May, 2026 - Road patching, drainage clearing and vegetation control have emerged among the major priority works identified under the Revised Cash for Work (R-CFW) programme as the identification exercise covered seven more wards today.
The exercise was conducted in Freedom, Maramba, Mwalibonena, Kariba, Mosi-oa-Tunya, Dr. Mubitana and Libuyu wards where communities identified various labour-intensive works aimed at improving the environment and community infrastructure.
Among the common works identified were sand scooping, unblocking of drainages, vegetation control and road maintenance. In wards such as Mosi-oa-Tunya, communities highlighted the urgent need for pothole patching, while in Libuyu Ward, gravelling and opening up of roads aswell as the installation of culverts was also identified as an important intervention to improve accessibility and ease movement within the area.
The proposed road works are expected to help improve mobility for both motorists and pedestrians, reduce water accumulation on roads during and after the rainy season, and enhance access to communities. In some areas, sand washed onto roads has affected movement, making sand scooping an important intervention to help make roads passable again.
The works will also contribute to cleaner surroundings and improved public safety while creating temporary employment opportunities for beneficiaries under the Revised Cash for Work programme.
The identification exercise continues to provide communities with an opportunity to prioritise projects that directly respond to their needs while promoting environmental management and sustainable community development.
