Team Ndola Campus Library staff and students commemorated International Literacy Day on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, under the theme: โ€œLiteracy for People, the Planet and Prosperity.โ€

As part of the commemoration, students participated in an exciting Team-Based Research Challenge, โ€œSolve a Real Problem with Information.โ€

Working in teams, students identified real problems affecting students or the wider community, conducted research using reliable information resources, evaluated evidence, and developed practical solutions. They then presented their solutions to a judging panel comprising campus lecturers.

The activity provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their:
๐Ÿ”น Research and information literacy skills
๐Ÿ”น Ability to find and evaluate credible information
๐Ÿ”น Critical thinking and information synthesis
๐Ÿ”น Problem-solving and evidence-based decision-making
๐Ÿ”น Teamwork and collaboration
๐Ÿ”น Communication and presentation skills

๐Ÿ“– Students made use of library books, e-books, academic journals, government publications, and credible online sources throughout the challenge.

๐Ÿ† Outstanding teams were recognised in categories including Best Evidence-Based Solution, Most Innovative Solution, Best Use of Library Resources, Best Presentation, and Best Community Impact Idea.

The event also featured refreshments, with water and mints served to participants.

Literacy is more than reading and writing, it is the power to find information, think critically, solve problems, and create positive change.

The event brought together 20 NIPA students, alongside students from Evelyn Hone College and other institutions, creating a safe and open space for conversations on su***de prevention, emotional well-being, and seeking help without stigma.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ A candle-lighting ceremony was also held to honour lives lost to su***de and symbolise hope, unity, remembrance, and a continued commitment to mental health awareness and su***de prevention.

Inspiring Young Innovators ๐Ÿš€

The NIPA Main Campus Library, in collaboration with American Corner NIPA, hosted a 3-Day 3D Printing Bootcamp on 24th, 27th, and 31st August as part of a teensโ€™ holiday program. Participants explored 3D printing, technology, and career opportunities, and brought their ideas to life by designing and printing their own 3D objects. The programme also featured a library orientation and fun treasure hunt, helping learners build essential research and information skills.

Every child has the potential to learn, lead, and shine. This August, give yours the space to discover it.

The American Corner NIPA and NIPA Main Library are jointly hosting a free one-day Future Leaders Holiday Program an interactive, creativity-filled morning designed exclusively for children aged 9 to 12. Through fun activities, leadership challenges, and engaging exercises that go far beyond the classroom, young minds will discover that leadership is not reserved for adults. It starts right here, right now, with the courage to learn, the confidence to speak, and the heart to make a difference.

Under the theme โ€œI Can Learn. I Can Lead. I Can "Shine"โ€”this program combines education, creativity, and leadership development in a way that is as fun as it is transformative. Every activity is designed to help children build essential life skills, discover their strengths, and leave the morning with a stronger sense of who they are and what they are capable of. Your child deserves more than a holiday. They deserve a head start.

Every great innovator started somewhere. For the next generation of Zambian creators, somewhere is right hereโ€”and it starts August 24.

The American Corner NIPA is hosting a free three-day 3D printing bootcamp exclusively for teens aged 15 to 17โ€”a hands-on, beginner-friendly program led by subject matter experts and designed for young people who are ready to turn their ideas into real, physical objects.

No experience required. Just curiosity, creativity, and the willingness to build something new.
Over three days, participants will learn how 3D printers work, watch live printing in action, and get hands-on experience taking a design from concept to creation. This is not a classroom lecture. It is a practical, immersive introduction to one of the most exciting technologies shaping the future of manufacturing, design, and innovationโ€”and it is happening right here in Lusaka.

Zambia's next generation of engineers, designers, and innovators deserves access to the tools that will define tomorrow's economy. This bootcamp is that access.

STATEMENT BY LIAZ ON THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE NATIONAL LIBRARY POLICY

On behalf of the Library and Information Association of Zambia [LIAZ], we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Education for the official launch of the National Library Policy and Implementation Plan, the School Library Manual, and the National Digital Library on Friday, 7th August 2026 in Lusaka. The event was officiated by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Dr. Kelvin Mambwe.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Zambia Library Services for their tireless efforts and leadership in making this historic launch possible. Our gratitude further goes to the National Library Technical Committee for their dedicated and spirited contribution to the development process, and to all stakeholders and partners who participated in the formulation of the Policy.

This milestone is monumental for the Library and Information Service profession in Zambia. For the first time in our countryโ€™s history, the National Library Policy has been actualized โ€” providing us with a clear framework to guide library development, promote equitable access to information, and strengthen school and digital libraries nationwide.

As LIAZ, we reaffirm our commitment to working with the Ministry of Education, ZLS, and all partners to support the successful implementation of the Policy and related instruments. We believe this will transform library services and advance literacy, research, and lifelong learning for all Zambians.

Once again, congratulations to the Ministry of Education and to the entire library fraternity on this landmark achievement.

Mr. Mubanga Lumpa
President, Library and Information Association of Zambia [LIAZ]
