Yesterday the 15th September 2025, the STOSAR II Project was officially launched, accompanied by its inception workshop. The European Union has inputted an amount of USD 10.8 million to this initiative, underscoring its importance and impact. The launch featured productive deliberations, and the workshop is continuing today, 16th September 2025.
Among the distinguished officials in attendance was Dr. Kenn K. Msiska, Director of the Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Service (PQPS).
The Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Service (PQPS) stands to benefit significantly from this project. Key areas of support include:
*Finalisation of regulations to ensure the effective implementation of the new law,
*Capacity building in diagnostics, surveillance, and biosecurity through specialised training,
*Procurement of essential survey supplies, among other critical interventions.
This initiative represents a major milestone in strengthening PQPS’s capacity to safeguard plant health and enhance phytosanitary services for the future.
