The long-standing friendship between Zambia and China continues to find expression at community level, with Keda Group of Companies and Twyford International Group reaffirming their commitment to supporting Zambiaβs development.
Speaking during the handover of medical and educational materials to Chasunta Secondary School at the Kafue Gorge Lower Power Development project, Keda and Twyford International Group Vice Managing Director Alvin Zheng said Chinese companies remained committed to working with the Zambian Government in areas that directly benefit communities.
Mr Zheng said cooperation between the two countries was anchored on a shared commitment to development, with education, infrastructure and energy among the key areas of partnership.
He pointed to major projects such as the TAZARA Railway and Kafue Gorge Lower Power Development Project, as well as Chasunta Secondary School, as examples of the longstanding relationship between Zambia and China.
He said Keda and Twyford International Group would continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of communities where they operate.
Kafue Gorge Lower Chief Executive Officer Mahaku Maloza said the handover demonstrated that the companyβs responsibility went beyond power generation.
He said supporting education, health and other community needs was part of creating sustainable development around the project.
At Chasunta Secondary School, the donation was particularly welcomed for its support towards menstrual hygiene among female learners.
A representative of the school described the donation as a βpowerful giftβ, saying access to sanitary products would help reduce barriers that can affect girlsβ attendance and participation in lessons.
The school expressed gratitude to ZESCO, Keda Group of Companies, Twyford International Group and other stakeholders for the support, while calling for continued collaboration to address the educational, health and sanitation needs of learners.
