The revenues and expenditures of municipalities determine their ability to deliver services, including electricity supply and erecting and maintaining high-mast lights. As revenues dwindle, municipalities are forced to make tough decisions about budget cuts and service reductions, potentially compromising the quality of life for their residents. Maquassi Hills Local Municipality - The Office of the Executive Mayor, Nikiwe Num was hosting an Interfaith Prayer Session as the country prepares to enter the Easter Weekend.

The Prayer Session's purpose was to unite religions in prayer. Members of Mayoral Committee in attendance included Concillors Mpho Matsapola (Special Programs), Lesego Molapisi (Corporate Services) and Zanele Mphafudi (Infrastructure & Planning),The South African Police Service and different church denominations as well as the community of Tswelelang are in attendance.

Maquassi Hills Local Municipality - DR Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Executive Mayor Nikiwe Num, alongside MMC's Matsapola (Special Programs), Molapisi (Corporate Service), Mphafudi (Infrastructure & Planning) as well as church leaders from different denominations led a successful Interfaith Prayer Session in Maquassi Hills. Part of the Session included praying for safety on roads as scores of travellers will use roads during the upcoming long Easter Weekend. After the church service, Cllr Num accompanied Traditional Healers at the cleansing ceremony of the N12 Road in Wolmaransstad. The Mayor had earlier pleaded with religious leaders to avoid unceremonious tensions as they have a very high chance of sowing divisions amongst communities. "The very same communities that rely on government for basic services are the same people from different religions and their religious denominations".

The Maquassi Hills Intergrated Development Plan Representatives Forum is in session, Maquassi Hills LM Council Chambers to interrogate and draw an inclusive IDP as the municipality has consulted the public on the ground to receive their inputs on the 5th generation IDP 2023 - 2027...

The meeting seats as a culmination of the public submissions to the municipal plan for the year ahead, this forum is charged by the constitution of the Republic, act of 1996 and other policies regulating the function of local governments as enshrined in Chapter 7 of the constitution and MFMA and Municipal Structures Act and the IGR framework that transcends that the plans of the municipality and those of sister departments be integrated to constitute a broader plan for the local municipality as a phase of delivery in local municipalities...

"Bringing Local government closer to the people, One year in Office report back session"

[HE], Hon. Cllr. Mzwandile Feliti; Mayor of Maquassi Hills LM delivers his address to the community of greater Lebaleng, Makwassie.

His address amongst us is on challenges that we're raised by the public on a number of meetings that the community has forwarded to the municipality, through community meetings, IDP and other progressive events in the recent past. This meeting is a feedback session to give our communities what has been achieved and what are challenges and how best can we resolve this problem together with communities, given that cooperation between government and citizens is one of the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the tide around for government and society to progress.

Issues raised;

1. Maintenance of highmast lights, the budget allocated was small and couldn't finish the project, we then decided to increase the budget to ensure successful completion of the project.

2. Renovation of the hall, the hall was renovated and the project is finalized, soon it will be officially opened.

3. Few, streets were worked since their state was very bad and unusable, Kala and others we will continue to do others as budget allows us.

4. Sanitation and Water in Ext 06 and Turfloop sections; this two areas were without Sanitation and water services; the municipality through the intervention of the District was able to procure VIP Toilets and Tankers to service this areas.

5. Human Settlement, the municipality through the department of Coghsta will soon deliver houses or RDP houses in Lebaleng, Extension 6 and Turfloop, furthermore, we appeal to the community to take care of this service as some beneficiaries just neglect their houses and they get vandalized and the municipality is later blamed for this thuggery which is the responsibility of communities to protect and care for.
