Today, the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER), together with its Ambassador, Miss Mpumalanga 2026, Masibulele Mndebele , participated in the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the 1976 Youth Uprisings in Perdekop, Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality.

During the event, the MER educated members of the public on responsible gambling and responsible liquor consumption. Awareness was raised about the addictive nature of gambling and alcohol, emphasizing the importance of setting limits, making informed choices, and knowing when to stop.

The public was also provided with information on available support services and where to seek help for gambling and alcohol-related addiction challenges.

Today, the MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Ms. Jesta Sidell, delivered the Department’s 2026/27 Policy and Budget Speech at the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.

Ahead of the address, the MEC visited the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER) exhibition stall, where officials showcased the organisation’s regulatory role in overseeing the gambling and liquor industries within the province. The MER also used the platform to engage stakeholders on responsible gambling and responsible alcohol consumption, while raising awareness about the social harms associated with gambling addiction, underage gambling, and alcohol abuse.

The Policy and Budget Speech outlined the Department’s strategic priorities and planned interventions aimed at driving economic growth, creating sustainable employment opportunities, and advancing inclusive development across Mpumalanga.

The Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER), together with its Ambassador, Miss Mpumalanga 2026, participated in an exhibition during the launch of Lenacapavir for HIV Prevention at the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality in Secunda.

As part of its public awareness and community education efforts, MER engaged with attendees on the importance of responsible gambling and responsible liquor consumption. The team educated community members about the risks associated with excessive gambling and alcohol abuse, highlighted the dangers of participating in illegal gambling activities, and encouraged informed and responsible decision-making.
