BACK-TO-SCHOOL OVERSIGHT MONITORING VISIT
Today, the Executive Mayor of Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Cllr. Veronica Ntakumbana, in collaboration with the Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Seiso Mohai, and the Acting Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Mojalefa Buti, conducted a visit to Letsete Secondary School and Seabo Primary School in Thabong, Welkom. This visit was part of their oversight monitoring initiative. The proceedings were expertly facilitated by Mr. Zanemvula Dingaan, the Programme Director and Circuit Manager at the Department of Education in Lejweleputswa District.
The Executive Mayor of Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Cllr. Ntakumbana, extended a warm welcome to the Deputy Minister, underscoring the pivotal role that education plays in the evolution of our nation’s social dynamics. She reiterated the district’s unwavering commitment to bolstering educational initiatives and expressed her gratitude to the Deputy Minister for his distinguished visit.
In his address, the Deputy Minister, Mr. Mohai, delineated the objectives of his visit, which included evaluating the school interventions currently in place, identifying necessary further actions to tackle challenges affecting teaching and learning, and engaging with students to highlight the significance of education. He emphasised that the purpose of this visit was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the prevailing circumstances and to offer support to schools in their quest to provide quality education.
The Lejweleputswa Education District Director, Ms. Phaello Zonke, delivered a comprehensive overview of the current educational landscape within the district, emphasising both notable achievements and areas that require advancement. Mr. Elias Nkoane, the Deputy Principal of Letsete Secondary School, provided insights into the school’s performance and recent developments. Key stakeholders, Absa Bank, including the Central University of Technology (CUT), and COSAS (Congress of South African Students), representing the learners' movement, were in attendance to demonstrate their commitment to supporting education in the district.
In his final comments, Deputy Minister Mr. Mohai underscored the government's dedication to enhancing educational outcomes, urging students to pursue excellence. Meanwhile, Cllr. Buti, the Acting Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, expressed gratitude to the School Governing Body, educators, and community stakeholders for their crucial support of learners. In a noteworthy gesture, the Executive Mayor of Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Cllr. Ntakumbana, alongside Absa Bank, generously donated sanitary towels to Letsete Secondary School, championing the cause of girls' education and dignity. The delegation then proceeded to Seabo Primary School, where Principal Mr. Ntema Moopeloa provided an overview and an update regarding the school's advancements.
