A march for Welsh independence brought thousands of people to the streets of Rhyl at the weekend. 🪧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Among the speakers was Llyr Gruffydd MS, who represents North Wales for Plaid Cymru.

He said: "Wales should be a wealthy nation – we are rich in energy, water, food production, and natural resources but the people of Wales are not seeing that wealth in their communities. We’re at the back of the queue when it comes to investment within the UK. Don’t let anybody tell you that Wales is too small, too poor, or too weak to stand on its own two feet – we can and we will flourish when decisions about Wales are made in Wales."

Planting trees can help cool the Earth by pulling carbon dioxide from the air, but a recent analysis in Nature Portfolio looked at a bigger picture.

Right now, most climate models overlook how trees naturally reflect sunlight, affect air chemistry and encourage cloud coverage, all of which have a cooling effect on the planet. When these factors are considered, the researchers found that trees' reported cooling impact is greater.

If this missing piece is included in climate models, we'll find that trees help cool the planet more than previously thought.

The more we all understand the true and complete power of trees, the better we can advocate for their protection, restoration, and strategic planting around the world.
