Gauteng government takes Imbizo Wednesdays to Emfuleni

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, together with Members of the Executive Council (MECs) and local government leadership of Emfuleni Local Municipality and Sedibeng, will lead the Gauteng Provincial Government’s Imbizo Wednesdays at Ramaphosa Informal Settlement in Emfuleni Local Municipality.

The engagement will provide residents with an opportunity to engage directly with government on service delivery issues affecting the community, including sanitation, electricity and infrastructure, among others.

The provincial government will also provide feedback on ongoing interventions and engage with residents on matters requiring coordinated action.

The Municipality advises road users that routine maintenance is currently in progress on Frikkie Meyer BLVD between Jan Van Riebeeck BLVD and Barrage Road.

Motorists can expect delays along the affected section of the road. Please drive with caution, and reduce your speed in the interests of the safety of our maintenance teams and other road users.

LEVEL 2 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IMPACT WARNING ⚠️

Residents are strongly cautioned about the approach of severe thunderstorms accompanied by high winds. These conditions pose risks of flash flooding, downed trees and power lines, property damage, and hazardous driving.

Safety at Home

* Stay indoors and away from windows and glass doors.
* Secure outdoor furniture, waste bins and other loose objects that could become projectiles.
* Unplug non-essential electronics and appliances to protect them from power surges.

Safety on the Road

* Avoid unnecessary travel. If you must drive, reduce speed and increase following distance.
* Watch for sudden wind gusts, fallen branches, debris, and flooded roadways.
* If conditions become severe, find a safe location away from trees, power lines, and overpasses.
* Never drive through standing water, turn around.

Electricity Conservation

To reduce strain on the electricity grid during and after the severe weather (when outages and restoration efforts are likely), residents are urged to use electricity sparingly:

* Turn off lights, televisions, computers, and appliances that are not essential.
* Delay non-urgent charging of devices and use of high-draw equipment (such as air conditioners, electric heaters, or ovens) when possible.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow instructions from local emergency management and weather authorities.

The municipality is attending to a power supply interruption affecting consumers at Arcon Park, Waldrift, Springcol, Unitas Park, Duncanville, Vereeniging Town, Duncanville Industrial, Three Rivers, Three Rivers East, Mario Milani, Parts of Midvaal and Rissiville. This is due to a malfunctioning high-voltage circuit breaker at Verdun Transmission Station.

No ETR can be shared at this stage. Updates will be communicated as and when there are developments. We apologize for the inconvenience.
