The Executive Mayor of King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality, Cllr Mkhanyiseli Dudumayo, welcomed and supported the Ministerial Stakeholder Engagement on the Status of Land Claims held at the Matyengqina Traditional Council within KSD Municipality.

The engagement brought together Minister Mzwanele Nyhontso, MEC B. Nkontsiwe, Chief Whip Cllr B. Mlanjeni, Chief Zwelile Mandela,Chief Bhovulengwe Mtirara, Chief Gwazinamba Mr Memela, Chief Joyi, traditional leaders, government representatives and other key stakeholders.

During the engagement, Minister Nyhontso assured affected communities that outstanding payments relating to land claims would be processed and paid, bringing renewed hope to residents who have been awaiting the resolution of their claims.

The engagement provided a platform for constructive dialogue on the status of land claims, challenges facing claimants and practical steps towards resolving outstanding land-related matters.

The Executive Mayor reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to working closely with national and provincial government, traditional leadership and communities to advance meaningful solutions and ensure that the voices and interests of our people remain at the centre of these important discussions.

KSD Municipality Law Enforcement – Follow-Up Report

KSD Municipality Law Enforcement conducted a follow-up operation regarding suspected theft and illegal dealing in copper.

The investigation established that the storage facility is located in North Crest, Maninjwa, where a container was identified as being used to store the suspected stolen copper.

During the operation at Polar Park, officers found a female suspect loading copper from the container into a bakkie GD6. The vehicle was intercepted while the loading operation was taking place. She is a girlfriend to a foreign national who is a well-known businessman.

The recovered material consisted mainly of copper wire, copper coils and copper strips.

Information received further indicates that the copper is allegedly transported to a scrapyard, where each pair involved is paid R500 by the scrapyard owner for delivering the copper. This information remains subject to verification and further investigation.

🚨 KING SABATA DALINDYEBO MUNICIPALITY LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATION – MATEBESE PHASE, NORTHCREST AREA 🚨

The King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality Law Enforcement Unit conducted an operation at Matebese Phase, which is situated within the Northcrest area, at House No. 40, following information regarding suspected stolen cooper wires. During the operation, Law-Enforcement officers apprehended a foreign national from Uganda and seized a bakkie suspected to have been used in the commission of a crime.

A quantity of copper/metal material was allegedly found at the back of the bakkie. The individual was unable to satisfactorily account for the suspected stolen copper.

The suspected stolen items had recorded weights of 4,020.0 and 32,560.0 respectively. The recovered property and vehicle were seized and taken for further investigation. The operation was also conducted following information regarding individuals suspected of being involved in the burning of Municipal mini-substations/electrical boxes within the Northcrest area. These incidents have resulted in residents being left without electricity and staying in darkness.

The suspect was apprehended at Phase which is within the Northcrest area, and the information obtained during the operation will be followed up to establish any possible link to the burning and vandalism of Municipal electrical infrastructure.

King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality convened an Organisational Structure Review Workshop at Nkululekweni Council Chambers, aimed at strengthening the Municipality’s capacity to effectively respond to community needs and service-delivery priorities.

In his welcoming remarks, Executive Mayor Cllr. M.S. Dudumayo emphasised that the review should go beyond compliance and focus on building a practical, affordable and service-centred organisational structure aligned with the IDP and Municipal priorities.

He highlighted the importance of clear roles, effective governance and the filling of critical vacancies to enhance institutional performance and accountability.

The Executive Mayor urged all stakeholders to participate constructively in the process to ensure that the final structure supports a more responsive and effective Municipality.

The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality, through the Office of the Speaker, today held a Stakeholders Consultation Meeting at the Council Chambers, Mthatha Town Hall, to engage stakeholders on proposed policies and by-laws relating to Community Services and Technical Services.

The meeting brought together representatives from various sectors, including KSD Hawkers, local businesses, property owners, truck owners and Eagle Watchdogs Non Profit Organisation (NPO).

Stakeholders welcomed the engagement and actively shared their views, concerns and recommendations on issues that need to be addressed to support the development of Mthatha and Mqanduli communities.

The discussions also emphasised the importance of restoring order and improving the appearance and functionality of KSD towns while ensuring that communities are not left behind. Residents, businesses and other stakeholders are an important part of the Municipality and must be included in decisions that affect them.

In her welcoming and opening remarks, KSD Speaker, Cllr N. Siyo-Sokutu, said the purpose of the meeting was to share information on the proposed policies and by-laws and to provide an opportunity for stakeholders and members of the public to raise their views, concerns and suggestions.

KSD Municipality Acting Executive Mayor, MMC Nyengane, together with MMC Gwadiso and Cllr Mhlaba, handed over a range of ward-based equipment to Ward 27 as part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery and support community development.

The equipment, including a grass-cutting machine, chain saw and car wash machine will assist with maintaining public spaces while creating opportunities for greater community participation and social cohesion.

This communique serves to inform Municipality customers in the Northern parts, that they will remain without electricity supply.

This is due to *vandalism* to Municipal electricity infrastructure (3 mini subs).

Power restoration may be delayed to Wednesday 02 September 2026 while police process and clearing the crime scene.

At this stage, an estimated time for the restoration of normal power supply is not yet known.

We deeply understand the hardship and disruption this outage causes to affected households, businesses, learners, and essential services. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and distress this has caused, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation while we work to resolve the matter as a matter of urgency.
