2. Who can apply?
Right now, the service is only available for Smart ID replacements.
This includes:
Replacing a lost, stolen or damaged Smart ID card
Replacing a green ID book with a Smart ID card
First-time ID applications are not available in branch yet.
3. Do you need an account with us?
Yes. You pay for your Smart ID using a bank account with us.
If you don’t have an account, we can help you open one in branch. Once the account is active and has a positive balance, you can continue with your Smart ID application.
4. Do you need to bring any documents?
No. You don’t need to bring documents with you.
If you’re opening an account during your visit, bring your green ID book to help us verify your details.
The application needs to be completed in person because your photo, fingerprints and signature will be captured in branch.
5. How much does a Smart ID application cost and how long does it take?
The total cost is R150.
This includes:
R140 for the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) application fee
R10 service fee
The application process is quick and normally takes only a few minutes in branch.
