During May 2026, the Swellendam Municipality’s Internal Audit Function successfully commemorated Internal Audit Awareness Month through a series of engaging and informative initiatives aimed at enhancing awareness and promoting collaboration across the Swellendam Municipality.

A key highlight of the campaign included the development of an awareness poster by the Media and Communication Officer, emphasising the critical role of Internal Audit and its alignment with the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS). This initiative reinforced the importance of governance, risk management, and internal controls within the Municipality.

To further drive engagement, weekly themed activities were introduced, encouraging voluntary participation from all staff members. Week two featured an interactive “Spot the Audit Terms” activity based on a fictional project in Railton, while week three focused on fostering teamwork through a “Collaboration through Partnership Quiz.” These initiatives not only enhanced understanding of audit concepts but also strengthened collaboration across departments.

The Internal Audit Function is pleased to acknowledge the winners of these activities: Mrs. Chandré Blauw (Finance Department: Senior Clerk : Salaries) and Mr. Joos Bester (Infrastructure Services: Manager: Project Management and Building Maintenance). Their participation reflects the spirit of engagement and commitment demonstrated throughout the campaign.

The Internal Audit Function extends its sincere appreciation to all staff who participated and contributed to the success of these initiatives. Importantly, the Municipality recognises that promoting Internal Audit Awareness extends beyond a single month and remains a continuous effort embedded in daily operations throughout the year.

Thank you to our Municipal Manager, Mrs A. Vorster and Mayor, Mr Du Rand and the Internal Audit Function for their commitment and participation in closing the Internal Audit Awareness Month at Swellendam Municipality.

Neem asseblief kennis dat die Archbishop Desmond Tutu biblioteek gesluit sal wees op 2-4 Junie 2026, weens bateverifikasie wat gaan plaas vind. Die biblioteek sal weer heropen die 5 Junie 2026.

Neem asseblief kennis dat die watervoorsiening in die volgende areas tot ongeveer 11:00 onderbreek word, weens ‘n pypbreek: Gedeelte Murraystraat, Voortrekstraat, Du Randstraat, Ashton Weg, Buitekantstraat en omgewing.

Die Munisipaliteit vra verskoning vir die ongerief wat veroorsaak word en versoek asseblief die publiek se geduld in die verband.

📣INTERRUPTION OF WATER SERVICES: SWELLENDAM

Please note that the water supply in the following areas will be interrupted until approximately 11:00, due to a pipe break: Section of Murray Street, Voortrek Street, Du Rand Street, Ashton Road, Buitekant Street and surrounding areas.

The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused and kindly requests the public’s patience in this regard.

📣ONDERBREKING IN DIE TOEVOER VAN ELEKTRISITEIT: SUURBRAAK

Neem asseblief kennis dat daar kragonderbreking is in Suurbraak, a.g.v ‘n fout op Eskom lyn. Die tydsduur vir die herstelwerk is onbekend.

Die Munisipaliteit vra verskoning vir die ongerief wat veroorsaak word en versoek asseblief die publiek se geduld in die verband.

Please note that there is a power outage in Suurbraak, due to a fault on the Eskom line.. The duration of the repair work is unknown.

📣ONDERBREKING IN DIE TOEVOER VAN ELEKTRISITEIT: SWELLENDAM

Neem asseblief kennis dat die kragtoevoer steeds onderbreek is in Die Boord. Die fout is reeds opgespoor en herstelwerk is tans aan die gang. Die tydsduur vir die voltooiing van die herstelwerk kan nog nie bevestig word nie.

Die Munisipaliteit vra verskoning vir die ongerief wat veroorsaak word en versoek asseblief die publiek se geduld in die verband.
