Humanitarian Gesture Brings Relief to eThembeni Families Five Months After Disaster

eThembeni, Amahlathi – In a continued humanitarian gesture aimed at restoring dignity and bringing relief to affected residents, the Amathole District Municipality (ADM), in partnership with Amahlathi Local Municipality, handed over food parcels and blankets to families impacted by the devastating disaster that struck the area in December 2025.

The intervention forms part of ongoing relief efforts to support households that are still recovering months after the disaster left many residents without basic necessities and struggling to rebuild their lives. Municipal officials visited the community, where gratitude and relief were evident as food parcels, blankets and were distributed to twenty affected households.

Amahlathi Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Nomakosazana Nongqayi, reassured residents that government remains committed to supporting vulnerable communities during the recovery process.

“We will not leave our people behind. These food parcels form part of ongoing humanitarian support for affected households,” said Cllr Nongqayi.

Community members welcomed the assistance, describing it as timely support as many families continue rebuilding their homes and livelihoods following the disaster.

The food parcel distribution highlights the continued collaboration between the Amathole District Municipality and Amahlathi Local Municipality in ensuring that affected communities receive the necessary support and care during their recovery journey.
