Rotary Club Stellenbosch Welcome to Stellenbosch Rotary page. Established in 1937 the Rotary Club Stellenbosch is one of the oldest clubs in South Africa.

We look back with pride on our service deliverance to the community at large for nearly 80 years and continue this endeavour with charitable zeal. The Rotary Club Stellenbosch is part of District 9350 of Rotary Africa and Rotary International.

Welcome Our Newest Rotarian – Octavian Sebybo

As we ended Rotary's theme month of August, Membership and New Club Development month, our Rotary Club of Stellenbosch is delighted to welcome Octavian Sebybo as our newest Rotarian.

Octavian, a mechanical engineer, was formally inducted by District Committee Chair and PDG Tracey Wilson and will be joining our Project Uplift Committee.

Project Uplift, championed by Rotarian Curt August, is a multi-year youth development initiative aimed at equipping young people in the greater Stellenbosch area with the skills, exposure and support they need to access employment opportunities in industry and commerce, or to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.

🇿🇦🇫🇷 Building Bridges Through Rotary Youth Exchange

Our Rotary Club of Stellenbosch was delighted to welcome Immediate Past District Governor Pam Rawbone, who introduced us to Sarah Hodsdon, a Grade 12 learner at Rhenish Girls’ High School and our Club’s latest Rotary Long-Term Exchange Student.

Sarah has been accepted to participate in a 12-month Rotary Youth Exchange in France from January 2027 to January 2028.

During her exchange, Sarah will experience French culture, education and family life while building friendships and gaining a deeper understanding of another country and its people.

Sarah's exchange journey will be mirrored by an Inbound Exchange Student from France, who will spend 12 months in South Africa. We expect to receive more details about Sarah’s French counterpart towards the end of this year.

Sarah will be connected to the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch throughout her exchange, while her parents, Karen and John Hodsdon, will have the privilege of hosting the French student in return.

Being selected as a Rotary exchange student is a wonderful honour and an opportunity that extends far beyond travel. Sarah will be an ambassador for South Africa and for Rotary, sharing our country's culture and values while embracing the opportunity to learn from her French hosts and community.

We wish Sarah every success as she prepares for this exciting chapter and look forward to supporting her throughout her Rotary journey!

We are also delighted to anticipate welcoming our French student to Stellenbosch in 2027.

Rotary Club of Stellenbosch brings warmth to Ida's Valley.

Our Rotary Club of Stellenbosch handed over 50 blankets, manufactured in South Africa, to the Academic Support Centre at the Ida’s Valley Sports Ground, providing practical support to children and adults in the Ida’s Valley community.

The Academic Support Centre was founded by Amanda Fischer and Eon Hendrikse in May 2025 and has grown into a valued after-school space where children from Ida’s Valley receive academic support, have a quiet and safe place to work, and benefit from adults and students who are committed to helping them succeed.

Amanda Fischer runs the Centre together with co-founder Eon Hendrikse, who was named a Social Justice Champion in 2020, and they are supported by a dedicated team of Stellenbosch University students who volunteer their afternoons to assist the children.

Amanda and Eon's commitment has helped the Centre develop into an important community initiative providing both educational and personal support to young people.

The blanket donation was made possible through the generosity of the Rotary Club of East Grinstead Meridian in Rotary District 1145, United Kingdom, which donated funds to the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch.

Our Stellenbosch Rotary Club was then able to identify the need within the Ida’s Valley community and direct the donation towards providing blankets to the Academic Support Centre.

The handover was attended by Deputy Mayor Dr Rudi Buys and Ward Councillor Raaslid van Rooyen, together with members of the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch, representatives of the Academic Support Centre and the Stellenbosch University students who contribute their time to the initiative.

We are particularly pleased that the generous contribution from our fellow Rotarians in the United Kingdom has enabled us to respond to a clearly identified need within our own community.

The Academic Support Centre is an excellent example of what can be achieved when committed community members, students and organisations work together to create opportunities and provide practical support where it is needed.

The Rotary Club of Stellenbosch extends its sincere thanks to the Rotary Club of East Grinstead Meridian, Co-Founders and , the Stellenbosch University student volunteers, Deputy Mayor Dr Rudi Buys and Ward Councillor Raaslid van Rooyen for their contribution to making the handover possible.

The initiative reflects Rotary’s commitment to service above self and to working in partnership with local organisations to address practical community needs and create lasting positive impact.

It was a pleasure for our Rotary Club of Stellenbosch to welcome our District Governor, Anton Lubbe and Rotarian Nettie Lubbe, who visited the Club as part of the engagement with Rotary clubs across our District 9350.

DG Anton Lubbe addressed the club about three key goals: membership retention, corporate partnerships, and addressing unemployment through education and training programs.

DG Anton's visit provided an opportunity for us all to reflect on our Club’s work, our priorities for the year ahead and the important role that Rotary plays in creating lasting impact in our community.

As August marks Rotary’s Membership and New Club Development Month, we were particularly delighted that DG Anton had the honour of inducting Lesego Ramokgali as our newest member of the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch.

Lesego was invited to join our Club by her friend and our fellow Rotarian Elegance Gozo. Elegance shared Lesego's Bio with us all.

We warmly welcome Lesego to our Rotary family and look forward to her contribution, to her ideas and to her commitment to service.

Growing our membership enables us to broaden our reach, strengthen our collective capacity and, ultimately, make an even greater difference in the communities we serve! 💙💛

It was our privilege to welcome Rotary District 9350 District Governor Anton Lubbe and Rotarian Nettie Lubbe on a visit to one of the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch's valued community support projects, the Stellenbosch GBV Centre.

This exceptional facility provides a safe haven for victims of gender-based violence, offering support to everyone, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

During the visit, Carol van Zyl, Director of the Stellenbosch GBV Centre, together with Angeline de Vos, shared how the Centre delivers compassionate, holistic care through high-quality medical treatment, psychological counselling, legal assistance, and emergency accommodation - all provided free of charge.

We are proud to support this vital community resource, which restores hope, dignity, and safety to those affected by gender-based violence. www.gbvcentre.org.za
