It looks easy. The curated close-up of the new family as they step into the future, together… But do not underestimate the years it has taken to walk the child through the court process, or for the parents to be vetted, trained and fully prepared to plunge into the unknown. We do not take our role lightly. Which is why when it is finally Adoption Day in Court, there are tears of relief and joy and a profound sense of gratitude. Adding to family. It’s what we live for. Wandisa Specialist Child Protection & Adoption Agency With thanks to Hayden and the Wandisa Team and its US partner, Holt International, to Vredenburg Social Development for working with us, to the amazing “Family R” for caring so wonderfully while this little girl waited for her “forever” home, & to Wybrow-Oliver Attorneys for its legal direction and court preparation. Today, on International Social Workers Day, we thank each member of the Wandisa Social Work Team. Together with the support of our Board of Directors & Administrator, you work together as one, making sure each child has a place to belong. This year’s theme is “Harambee”, a Swahili word that features on Kenya’s Coat of Arms and means “pulling together as one”. Ps can you spot the missing social worker in the first picture?!! Last week we invited local friends to hear the incredible story that made the BBC Christmas Day headlines - along with the King, the Queen and the Pope! Ronnie, a homeless man, knocked on the door of the Parsons’ home in Wales one Christmas Eve, was invited in - and lived with them for 45 years! Brad and I are privileged to have been mentored for the past 20 years by Rob Parsons OBE & his wife, Dianne, Founders of Care for the Family UK. Rob shared from his best seller “A Knock at the Door” with Di adding her valuable perspectives. I gave insight into how Wandisa serves parentless children by finding the right family to adopt each of them so that, like Ronnie, they will be loved and nurtured - and know what it feels like to belong. Grateful thanks to Rob and Dianne for their ongoing inspiration and our friends for their support. Debbie Wybrow Brad Oliver Wandisa Specialist Child Protection & Adoption Agency Care for the Family
