MURDER CASE OF KEDISALETSE DITIRE POSTPONED TO NOVEMBER

SCHWEIZER-RENEKE – The case against Kampende Simon Likuwa (50), a Namibian national accused of murdering his partner, 52-year-old Kedisaletse Audrey Ditire, has been postponed to 24 November 2025 for further investigation.

Likuwa made a brief second appearance in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 25 September 2025. Prosecutor Sharon Matamela asked the court for more time, explaining that DNA results are still outstanding and police investigations are ongoing.

Ditire’s decomposed body was discovered on a farm in Avondster in mid-August, nearly three months after she went missing on 29 May 2025. Her disappearance had left her family and the Ipelegeng community searching desperately for answers until Likuwa allegedly led police to her remains on 21 August.

The State has classified the matter as a Schedule 6 offence. During his first appearance earlier this month, Likuwa, represented by Legal Aid South Africa, abandoned his bail application. Prosecutors had already confirmed that bail would have been opposed due to the seriousness of the charge.

Meanwhile, the Ditire family told this publication that her body has not yet been released by police, as DNA investigations are still in progress. This could mean that it may take even longer before Ditire can finally be laid to rest.

Likuwa also faces a separate case related to his immigration status.

OPEN SEWAGE DAM A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN

IPELEGENG – Rise Bokone wishes to raise urgent concern about an open sewage dam located just outside Extension 5 in Ipelegeng, Mamusa. The site, which contains raw sewage and waste, remains unprotected and unattended, with no fencing, warning signs, or safety tape to prevent access.

This situation poses a grave danger. Children frequently play in the vicinity, and livestock are often seen grazing nearby. Without clear barriers, there is nothing stopping a child or animal from falling into the contaminated water, which could lead to tragedy.

Beyond the safety risk, the health implications are severe. Exposure to untreated sewage carries the risk of waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and skin infections. The environmental impact is also concerning, as the seepage of contaminated water threatens the surrounding soil and grazing land.

As a publication, we believe this is an urgent matter requiring the immediate attention of the municipality. At the very least, the site must be secured with fencing and warning signs to prevent access. Long-term solutions for safe sewage management must also be prioritised.

This is not an issue that can wait. Every day the site remains open and unmarked is another day where lives are put at risk. We call on the municipality to take swift and decisive action before disaster strikes.
