roughout North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, the IWF facilitates networking among women of achievement and promotes opportunities for women in leadership. Founded in 1982 in the United States, the IWF has grown across five continents into 26 nations and 60 affiliated forum locations and currently has a membership of over 5 000 women leaders. Through international programmes, conferences, galas, symposia, communications, publications and special functions, members are able to meet, experience and exchange ideas and goals – some of which influence industry, shape economies and define government policies worldwide. The International Women’s Forum of South Africa (IWFSA) was established in 2000 when its patron,
Mrs Zanele Mbeki, together with a group of woman leaders, set up a South African chapter of the IWF. IWFSA currently has some 70 members drawn from government, business, the sciences, the arts and numerous other areas. IWFSA, established in 2000, is a progressive organization of women leaders whose vision is to educate, empower, nurture and mentor the next generation of women leaders in South Africa through various programmes. IWFSA is a chapter of IWF, a global membership organization headquartered in Washington DC with 62 affiliated forums in 26 countries and five continents and has over 5 000 members worldwide.

"As South Africa celebrates the 20th year of its democracy, it is particularly appropriate to applaud Dr Brigalia Bam, the first female chair of SA’s Independent Electoral Commission, from 1999 until she retired in 2011. She is Founder of the Women’s Development Foundation for Social Development & Community Services, currently Chancellor of the Walter Sisulu University and a member of African Union’s Panel of the Wise " - Dr Vuyo Mahlati

Ms Linah Mohohlo, joined the Bank of Botswana when it was founded in 1970, rising through the ranks to be appointed as it's first female governor in 1999. Ms Mohohlo is also a member of the Africa Progress Panel with Mr Kofi Annan and Ms Graca Machel.
Her exceptionally long service in this position has given additional weight to her country’s voice at bodies such as the World Economic Forum. She was awarded with the "Women Changing Africa" award at the IWFSA Africa Rising conference this year.
