Turning E-Waste into Business Opportunities
The ICT Emerge Ignite E-Waste Programme is empowering young entrepreneurs in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, with practical ICT repair skills and entrepreneurial training to help them participate in the growing digital circular economy.
In just the first week, eight aspiring entrepreneurs successfully repaired three mobile phones while learning valuable technical skills, developing marketing strategies, and exploring ways to build sustainable ICT businesses.
Supported by development partners; Tushiyah Xchange and NishéTech, as well as local partners Emerald Sun, the local Ward Councillor, and the Durban Solid Waste Department, this pilot programme demonstrates how collaboration can create opportunities for youth development, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.
E-waste is more than an environmental challenge. With the right support and skills, it can become a pathway to innovation, income, and entrepreneurship.
