Criminals do NOT go on holiday just because you do.
So, who is blessed enough to be going away over this festive season? I do trust you will have a wonderful time!
BUT.
If you think for one moment that criminals go on holiday as well, your holiday might end up in tears. Or worse, heaven forbid.
It matters absolutely NOTHING where in this beautiful country of
ours you decide to holiday - a potential criminal is never too far away. Fact. And they just looooooove all those brig
ht and beautiful holidaymakers arriving from far away places like Gauteng to come and relax at the coast and elsewhere. In fact - they are probably waiting for you so that their Christmas shopping spree can also get going.
Please dear friends, even if you holiday in some remote little coastal town where things are so relaxed that the coffee water takes 10 minutes to boil, it does not mean you are suddenly away from South Africa and it's crime problem. Yes,, that area might be nice and quiet, with very little violent crime.
However - that does NOT mean it cannot happen. Don't leave your doors unlocked, if there is an alarm - use it. Bottom line - if you relax to such an extent that you do things like this, how surprised should you really be if you get back from the beach and all your stuff has been stolen or you wake up in the night and realise there are burglars in the house?
Bottom line - you can relax and have a great time. But do not let your guard down! Always stay aware, always follow basic guidelines such as keep doors locked and alarms on and well, I guess what I am trying to say in a nutshell is:
Go and have lots of fun but don't leave your brain at home. Think. Criminals don't relax, they don't stop just because YOU are tired and want to rest and have a good time. Yes, even in that remote, picturesque little coastal village.
Of course - this goes for those who are not going away as well. Don't let your guard down.
