ANC EASTERN CAPE STATEMENT ON THE BARBARIC MURDER OF COUNCILLOR ANDILE ANDRIES AND COMRADE LUBABALO KESA

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has received the shocking news of the brutal murder of Ward 43 Councillor at Kariega in Nelson Mandela Bay, Comrade Andile Andries and ANC Branch Secretary, Comrade Lubabalo Kesa . Both comrades were shot and killed this afternoon at Councilor Andries house at Kariega.

The killing of these two comrades represents barbarism of the worst order. We strongly condemn this incident, as it has no place in our democracy. These were activists who had the community’s interests at heart.

We call on all members of our movement and the broader community of Nelson Mandela Bay at this stage to be calm. We also strongly call on law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of this ultimate act of cowardice.

We convey our heartfelt condolences to the Andries and Kesa families, relatives and the community of Nelson Mandela Bay. We lower our banner in honour of their passing in the service of the people.

May their souls rest in peace.

Statement on matters around the CFO

It has come to the attention of Enoch Mgijima Municipality that the Chief Financial Officer Mr Paul Mahlasela is currently facing charges which are still under investigation at his former employer, Alfred Nzo municipality in his then capacity as Supply Chain Manager. The matter has as yet not been considered by the Enoch Mgijima Local Council. It needs to be pointed out however, that news currently circulating on various social media platforms linking the corruption allegations against the CFO to the Lessyton sports facility is fake and devoid of any substance. Mr Mahlasela assumed his duties as Enoch Mgijima Municipality CFO in March 2021 and by then, procurement had been completed.

The municipality will advise as soon as further internal developments emerge.

ANC EASTERN CAPE CONDEMNS ABHORRENT AND VICIOUS ATTACK ON COUNCILLOR NANZIWE RULASHE IN AMATHOLE DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY OFFICES

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape strongly condemns the abhorrent and vicious attack on Councillor Nanziwe Rulashe today at the Amathole District Municipality offices by security officials.

A video circulation on social media platforms shows security officials dragging her out of office in full view of Municipality staff. The most disgusting part in that video is the charge led by a woman wearing a white dress claiming to be a head of security , someone who should know how acts of gender based violence and femicide have led to killing of women in our country.

This behaviour is unacceptable, seeing a public representative being dragged out of office by security officials on the alleged instructions from a Municipal Manager and HOD can never be tolerated.

We call for decisive action against all those involved in this abhorrent display of gender based violence and be brought to book. We further call on MEC of COGTA to urgently investigate this despicable and distasteful act.
