Going through our organization's feed depicts a different story, you'd swear we are not in this very local municipality.

Maybe we are not talking to the right people. Who should we raise our environmental concerns to if not Mr. Magwentshu's office?

It can get demoralising pleading with the government's officials for something so trivial as access to a dormant vandalised property to no successful end for so long as we have.

The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has not processed our applications for the former Mhlotshana High School, it's been 3 years since we applied. Those buildings have now been stripped down to the foundation by local vandals.

We wanted to build an Arts Centre for our community's creatives and cultural practitioners and entrepreneurs.

The community approved of our vision as demonstrated by their signatures on our petition. The Creative Arts and Cultural fraternity supported us and are willing to contribute with programmes and capacity and more as demonstrated by their support letters and letters of intent. Local artists are in need of infrastructure that houses hubs for their career developments as demonstrated by their attendance in all of our public outcries as demonstrated in the pictures attached.

We certainly hope the government could improve on recognising what properties could contribute value to the community as well as the government's purse. Right now, properties die or decline in value right in front of our eyes without considering alternative uses when the former custodian exits.

I included the Botha Sigcau building recently burned down in Mthatha because I fear that its fate will follow this trend. Years later it will be forgotten that it started in 2026 as it has been forgotten that Mhlotshana started being vacant in 2016.

We are hoping that one day this could be us. Laying the foundation for a property that would not only house computers and furniture but also provide hope for our community to access better opportunities that this digital age offers.

Our local municipality can make our hope a reality.

At the C tutor J Foundation (CJF), our mission is to turn potential into progress. Since opening the CJF - Community Resource Center Network (CRC), we’ve watched you use our digital tools to build your own pathways.

Did our free Wi-Fi help you land an interview? Did our team help you polish a CV that opened doors? Or did university application support change your trajectory? How did we assist your development and growth?

We want to showcase YOUR story. We are looking for community members who have benefited from the CRC to share their testimonies on video. Your "small win" is a powerful blueprint that can inspire the next person to take action.

Our priority has always been providing access to information and opportunities for the community to become more involved in their solutions.

We are hoping to do this at a far better level than we are currently doing. This is the reason we are pursuing the revitalization of the Old Rent Office.

Get involved and support this movement.
