ANCYL ZONE 5 COLLECTIVE VIEW IN UPCOMING REGIONAL CONGRESS

The ZC of the ANCYL in Zone 5 sat on 6 March 2018, after branches had convened their BEC’s to reflect on the vision of the ANCYL and the candidate they believed would best champion the interests of young people of Greater Jo’burg Region.

In being succinct in sharing our view, ours as Young people of the ANCYL in Zone 5 is to see a collective Youth League leadership which will champion and become implementers of the following:

- Mobilise young people across social spectrum to rally behind the banner of the ANC.

- A radical and militant ANCYL which is an unapologetic agent of Radical Socio-Economic Transformation for young people in Greater Jo’burg Region

- A Youth League which will radicalize, influence and restore its once commanding role in the ANC body-politics (and society at large)

- Fiercely protect the autonomy of the Youth League, as to resist it being turned into a youth desk of the ANC embroiled in e-wallet battles

- Be the embodiment of the twin tasks of the Youth League today.

We are of the view Comrades, that young people must curb the paralyses of social-media activism, and we believe that we need leaders who are tried and tested in structures of the Youth League. Leaders, who are in touch, can inspire and understand the daily struggles of fellow young people. It is in this light, that we have searched for the best amongst us.

ANCYL branches in Zone 5 have agreed that the Comrade whom we are forwarding is one who will, without fear or favour, execute the mandate articulated above.

We will further substantiate our view of this young lion during lobbying processes, however, this is a brief overview of why we are rallying behind the name of cde Ashley Mama to be the Regional Treasure:

- He has championed for youth economic development, which has led to over 100 young people being employed over the past 2 years in both the private and public sector.

- Created economic opportunities for youth owned businesses in the private and public sector, amounting to just over millions of rands

- He was the Chief strategist and mobiliser in attaining 10 Ward Committee seats for the ANC, in Ward 97, which traditionally, is a stronghold of the DA.

- Led a march to Mashaba’s office to ensure that the victims of an illegal eviction were found accommodation for, after 200 people found themselves homeless. Which culminated in the winning of land at Plot 323 for the displaced

- Mobilised resources for over 200 displaced people within Ward 97, which culminated in sanitary packs, blankets and food for over a month.

- Led a shut-down protest in his ward for service delivery and housing.

- Leads a branch which has been recognized by upper structures, as 1 of 5 active branches in greater Jo’burg. 2 of the 5 active branches are from Zone 5, of which he is the Chair of the Zone.

- Our comrade has served with distinction in various capacities in the ANCYL, which include him being the current Chairperson of his Branch and Zonal Chair.

He is a fearless character, does not cowar in the face of adversity, and possesses the required skill sets to advance the revolution. Speaks to truth to power, and is heavily involved in the community activism of the Zone.

It is for this reason that the collective view and official position of the ANCYL Zone 5, is Cde Ashley Mama, for the position of Treasurer of Greater Jo’burg Region.

We welcome all Zones who share in the vision, as summised, for further engagements. All engagements are to be done via the Zonal Secretary of Zone 5, Cde Sinethemba.

Yours in Revolution

We have noted scathing attack on Zonal leadership by individuals whose attentions are to disrupt/ destabilise smooth running of the ANC in the Zone. We strongly condemn the personal attack and fabricated allegations against Cde Phosane Mngqibisa who's Chairperson of the ANC as democratically elected by branches of the ANC in zone 5. Its unfortunate to note that, cde a Phapano Phasha authors of this message have been implicated in various activities that seek to undermine programmes of the ANC in the zone prior, during and post election.

The Zonal Committee of the ANC under the Chairpersonship of cde Phosane Mngqibisa reaffirms its unwavering support for the democratically elected leadership of: GJHB-REC, GP-PEC and NEC of the African National Congress, our solid political and revolutionary relations with upper structures of our glorious movement won 't be dettered by this malicious act driven by personal hatred for individuals serving in the Zonal Leadership.

The ANC, in its wisdom, should move swiftly in instilling stoical discipline by rogue charlatans masquerading as ANC leaders, whose intentions are selfish personal benefits whereas, they're nothing but distractors of the progressive programmes of the ANC. It must be noted that, the ANC in the zone will continue to execute its political programmes as mandated by the branches, leagues and Alliance partners without fear or favour.Political disciplinary actions against the instigator of this anarchy should be executed according to ANC constitutional guidelines. Going to the Policy Conference, we will submit and advocate for the ANC to look at the issue of social media that is easily accessible to everyone and its abuse there of that tarnishes the good name of the ANC.

We thank and commend branches of the ANC in zone 5 for showing undivided support to the Zonal leadership particularly the Chairperson of the zone. We appreciate the fact that branches of the ANC distanced themselves from this personal attack to the zonal leadership and we further reiterate the point that, for us is not to grandstand and embarrass the great brand of the ANC but our revolutionary duty is to at all times protect, defend the ANC and follow internal processes where necessary. Cde Phosane has contacted his lawyers for legal advise for the gross implications against him.
