On Wednesday, 12 August, the South African Communist Party leadership in Ward 15, led by SACP Ward Candidate comrade Phikolomzi Jaxa, fondly known as Okocha Jomo Mjomana, changed the lives of two young children in the ward and donated two (2) pairs of new school shoes.

The SACP identified the children during the IEC Open Voter Registration weekend while the Mandla Makuphula Red Brigades were embarking on a door-to-door campaign to encourage potential and registered voters to register or check their status with the agency in preparation for the upcoming local government election on the 4th of November 2026.

While campaigning, the SACP noticed the economic situation of the family and the dire condition of the school uniform, in particular the shoes of the children.

During the visit to hand over the new pair of school shoes, the SACP leadership committed to the family to explore further avenues to assist them, such as reaching out to the local business fraternity and community members, respectively, to solicit donations, which will provide much-needed relief to the family.

The SACP does not view the intervention as merely a donation of school shoes but rather an act of goodwill that restores the dignity and confidence of the affected children. The SACP is conscious of the fact that some children do not drop out of school due to inability. They drop out because of their socioeconomic conditions, which often affect their confidence and self-esteem.

Issued by the SACP Enoch Mgijima Elections Coordinating Team.

On Sunday, 9 August 2026, the South African Communist Party (SACP) in Ward 16, led by SACP Ward candidate nominee, comrade Lwazikazi Mpange donated blankets to a family in Nkululekweni whose home was destroyed by fire on Monday 20 July 2026.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) identified the family's urgent needs during a door-to-door community outreach campaign on Thursday, 23 July 2026. The party intervened rapidly to donate essential clothing items, groceries, and a 3-door kitchen cupboard to restore basic living conditions on Sunday, 26 July 2026. A follow-up donation of blankets was delivered today, 9 August 2026 - Women's Day, to shield the family from the active Orange Level 6 disruptive snow and extreme cold front.

As part of commemorating Women's Days, the SACP consciously resolved to embark on this outreach today to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the 1956 Women's March, a day symbolysis unity and resilience through all adversities.

Additionally, the SACP's decision to distribute blankets today was highly critical due to severe weather alerts across the region:

* Orange Level 6 Snow Warning: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) upgraded alerts to a dangerous Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive snow covering the Chris Hani District Municipality, which directly encompasses the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality.

Key Details of the Intervention:

* Immediate Relief: The SACP provided blankets to help the affected family cope with the current extreme cold weather conditions.

The SACP extends a heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire community for their incredible generosity and swift support. By coming together, the communities collective kindness has provided immediate warmth and safety to this family during a devastating time.
