On Sunday, 9 August 2026, the South African Communist Party (SACP) in Ward 16, led by SACP Ward candidate nominee, comrade Lwazikazi Mpange donated blankets to a family in Nkululekweni whose home was destroyed by fire on Monday 20 July 2026.
The South African Communist Party (SACP) identified the family's urgent needs during a door-to-door community outreach campaign on Thursday, 23 July 2026. The party intervened rapidly to donate essential clothing items, groceries, and a 3-door kitchen cupboard to restore basic living conditions on Sunday, 26 July 2026. A follow-up donation of blankets was delivered today, 9 August 2026 - Women's Day, to shield the family from the active Orange Level 6 disruptive snow and extreme cold front.
As part of commemorating Women's Days, the SACP consciously resolved to embark on this outreach today to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the 1956 Women's March, a day symbolysis unity and resilience through all adversities.
Additionally, the SACP's decision to distribute blankets today was highly critical due to severe weather alerts across the region:
* Orange Level 6 Snow Warning: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) upgraded alerts to a dangerous Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive snow covering the Chris Hani District Municipality, which directly encompasses the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality.
Key Details of the Intervention:
* Immediate Relief: The SACP provided blankets to help the affected family cope with the current extreme cold weather conditions.
The SACP extends a heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire community for their incredible generosity and swift support. By coming together, the communities collective kindness has provided immediate warmth and safety to this family during a devastating time.
