Re-Imagine Urbanism The objectives of the Urban Design Institute of South Africa (UDISA) are to promote greater public awareness of the value of and need for urban design.

The Urban Design Institute of South Africa is proud to present the Urban Debate Series entitled RE-IMAGINE URBANISM. The first instalment of the series will address “URBAN+TRANS+FORMATION: Considering a Vision for African inner-cities”. This international urbanism conference will see urban design practitioners; municipal, provincial and other government officials; students and interested professio

nals from South Africa, Africa and across the globe coming together to explore the potential of Gauteng Inner-cities as part of a multi-disciplinary approach. Confirmed keynote speakers at present include Jeff Shumaker, Chief of Urban Design in the City of New York; Prof. Maria Fernand Dentl of the University of Brasilia; Tony Asaro, architect and planner from Ghana; and Dr. Ombretta Romice and architects and urban designers from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Our endeavour is to provide an international platform for debate and sharing knowledge and expertise on tackling real, relevant and local urbanism issues. The Urban Design Conference is scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: 29th – 31st March 2016
Venue: Freedom Park, Tshwane, South Africa

The conference will comprise of:
• Specialist presentations;
• Robust debate;
• Tours of selected inner-city sites in Gauteng;
• Workshops to devise strategies for tackling inner city problems.
