Ambassador Reyad Al-Akbari attended, at the invitation of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in cooperation with the University of Pretoria, the seminar held on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, dedicated to reviewing the outcomes of South Africa’s Presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) and the lessons learned from this historic experience.
Participants discussed the legacy of South Africa’s G20 Presidency and its impact at the regional and international levels, as well as implementation priorities and the geopolitical implications of this presidency for the African continent.
The seminar underscored the importance of holding the first G20 Leaders’ Summit on African soil as a historic milestone that reflects the continent’s growing role in the global governance system and strengthens its presence in shaping multilateral international policies.
