🌸 Ina is a young mother who had to drop out of school to care for her baby. Living with HIV and on treatment for most of her youth, she gave birth to a healthy HIV-negative baby. Although her journey has not been easy, she is grateful for all the support that she received from the clinicians at her local clinic, MatCH community care givers and her aunt, who encouraged her to take her treatment consistently.

"I have accepted my HIV status and I now know the best way to take my treatment."

Despite challenges, Ina is hopeful. When she returns to school next year, she dreams of becoming a social worker to help other young people facing similar circumstances.

She's grateful to her aunt who has been her pillar of strength.

U.S. Ambassador to South Africa L. Brent Bozell III has challenged Paraguay's Ambassador, Juan Manuel Livieres Ocampos, to a friendly wager ahead of the June 12 match between Team USA and Paraguay.

If Paraguay wins, it's homemade apple pie. If Team USA wins, it's time to discover a favorite Paraguayan dessert.

May the best team—and the sweetest treat—win.

🙏 Big shoutout to the primary caregivers—the brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, and grandmothers who take responsibility for young people who need to start and stay on treatment.

They educate themselves about treatment benefits, ensure children take their medication, and provide unwavering support—often with little recognition.

This post is especially for them. You are the unsung heroes of the HIV response.

Thank you for your dedication. 💙

A huge thank you to the dedicated members of the KwaZulu-Natal Civil Society Forum for welcoming Consulate Durban's PEPFAR team to the KwaMuhle Museum. Their essential work managing the AIDS exhibition preserves the history of HIV/AIDS in KZN and showcases prevention strategies that serve communities across the province.

The museum also highlights key milestones in our shared effort to combat the scourge of HIV/AIDS over the last two decades, including the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which was launched in 2003. Through PEPFAR, the American people have provided billions of dollars to provide antiretroviral treatments, support countless health care workers, create mobile health clinics and so much more – an effort that has saved the lives of millions of South Africans. Today, our work continues through the PEPFAR bridge program, reaffirming the United States' position as the global leader in public health.

Two nations. One shared belief: opportunity.

For 250 years, the American story has been shaped by people who dared to dream, build, innovate, and create something bigger than themselves. Across South Africa, that same spirit of ambition and possibility continues to drive entrepreneurs, innovators, students, and business leaders who are shaping the future every day.

As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, we also celebrate the partnerships, ideas, and people that connect our nations and create new opportunities for growth, innovation, and shared prosperity.

Because the future is built by those willing to imagine what comes next.
Freedom to innovate. Freedom to build. Freedom to create opportunity.

The Soweto Rowing Club Opening Day brought rowing, community and competition together in a powerful way.

Our U.S. Consulate Johannesburg Public Affairs Officer Vanessa Toscano joined the club on to celebrate a growing sporting community that continues to build bridges far beyond the Orlando Dam.

The club’s first ever regatta carried a deeper story of opportunity and impact. In 2025, 16-year-old rowing talent Sekgowe Phela, a standout athlete from the Soweto Rowing Club, earned a full scholarship to attend St Benedict’s Preparatory School in the United States. His journey was made possible through the support and mentorship of U.S. rower and changemaker Arshay Cooper.

Stories like Sekgowe’s reflect the growing ties between South African rowing communities and partners in the United States - where sport becomes more than competition, but a pathway to education, leadership, and shared opportunity.
