H.E. Jane Ndurumo today attended the Official Opening Ceremony of the First Ordinary Session of the Seventh Parliament of the Pan-African Parliament at its Headquarters in Midrand, South Africa.

The ceremony was officiated by H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, who delivered the keynote address. In his remarks, President Ramaphosa underscored that the Pan-African Parliament gives expression to the voice of the people of Africa and reinforces the continent’s shared commitment to democratic governance, constitutionalism, the rule of law, and the promotion and protection of human rights.

The First Ordinary Session is being held under the African Union’s 2026 Theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

Today, H.E. Jane Ndurumo, Kenya’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, hosted a special welcome reception in honour of Kenyan athletes participating in the prestigious 2026 Comrades Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, 14 June 2026.

Joined by the leadership of the Kenyan diaspora in KwaZulu-Natal, the High Commissioner warmly welcomed more than 40 Kenyan recreational runners who had travelled to South Africa to take part in the iconic ultramarathon.

Held annually in KwaZulu-Natal, the Comrades Marathon is one of the world’s most celebrated ultramarathons, attracting over 22,000 participants and covering approximately 85.77 kilometres between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

Addressing the athletes, the High Commissioner commended their dedication, resilience and commitment to excellence, noting that they continue to fly the Kenyan flag high on the global stage. She wished them every success in the race and underscored that Kenya remains a global powerhouse in athletics, whose athletes inspire generations through their remarkable achievements and unwavering determination.

The reception celebrated the spirit of excellence, endurance and national pride that defines Kenya’s rich sporting heritage.

Today, H.E. Amb. Jane Ndurumo accompanied Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, EGH, Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms. Regina Ombam, Principal Secretary for Trade, and other senior government officials on a visit to the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (TASEZ) and the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) in Pretoria.

The visit provided the Kenyan delegation with valuable insights into South Africa’s advanced automotive manufacturing ecosystem, industrial development strategies, and investment facilitation frameworks.

Kenya looks forward to engaging further on potential areas of cooperation, including automotive component manufacturing, vehicle assembly, industrial park development, skills and technology transfer, as well as regional manufacturing integration aimed at strengthening Africa’s industrial competitiveness and economic transformation.

As part of the State Visit, H.E. President William Ruto and H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa participated in the Kenya–South Africa Business Forum, which brought together business leaders, investors and policymakers from both countries.

The Forum served as a platform to strengthen trade and investment ties, expand market access and explore new avenues for economic cooperation.

The two leaders underscored the strategic importance of deepening economic relations between Kenya and South Africa, noting that, as two of Africa’s leading economies, enhanced collaboration would unlock greater opportunities for growth, innovation, industrialisation and shared prosperity across the continent.

H.E. Dr. William Ruto, PhD., CGH., President of the Republic of Kenya, commenced his State Visit to the Republic of South Africa with bilateral talks with H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa.

The two Heads of State held substantive discussions aimed at elevating Kenya–South Africa relations to a Strategic Partnership, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest and advancing the common aspirations of the two nations.

On the sidelines of the bilateral meeting, Kenya and South Africa signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in various fields including Trade Facilitation, Technical and Vocational Training; Shipping and Maritime Cooperation, Arts, Culture and Heritage, ⁠Sports and Recreation, and Gender Equality and Women Empowerment
