| uTHUKELA DISTRICT CONTRIBUTES TO SHAPING THE PLAN.

The National Department of Agriculture today continued its consultations on the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan (NFNSP) 2025–2033, engaging stakeholders in uThukela District, KwaZulu-Natal, at Drakensberg.

The engagement provided stakeholders with an opportunity to present their inputs, comments and recommendations on the Plan, while highlighting the district’s specific food and nutrition security needs and priorities.

These contributions form part of the department’s efforts to ensure that the Plan is comprehensive, responsive and informed by the diverse realities of districts across South Africa.

As consultations continue across the country, every district has an opportunity to add its voice to shaping South Africa’s food and nutrition security agenda.

SOUTH AFRICA AND ZAMBIA STRENGTHEN COOPERATION ON DIGITAL AGRICULTURE AND AI

South Africa and Zambia are strengthening technical cooperation in digital agriculture and artificial intelligence through a South-South Cooperation Exchange Visit taking place from 14–17 September 2026.

The National Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, is hosting a delegation from the Zambian Ministry of Agriculture, FAO Zambia and Smart Zambia, with FAO South Africa also participating in the exchange.

The visit provides an opportunity for the two countries to share technical knowledge and practical experiences on the design, implementation, governance and application of digital agriculture systems and artificial intelligence technologies.

The exchange focuses on how digital technologies and AI can be used to improve agricultural service delivery, strengthen support to farmers and enhance access to agricultural information and services.

Through this South-South exchange, South Africa and Zambia are sharing knowledge, experiences and practical solutions to advance digital innovation and contribute to a more connected, responsive and digitally enabled agricultural sector.

Mr Bonga Msomi, Chief Director: National Extension Support Services, reflected on the consultations held to date on the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan (NFNSP) 2025–2033.

He noted that the inputs received so far have been constructive, valuable and insightful, providing perspectives that are contributing to the development of a comprehensive and responsive NFNSP Plan.

Consultations continue across the country to gather diverse perspectives and inputs towards developing a comprehensive National Food and Nutrition Security Plan for South Africa.🇿🇦

| TRANSFORMING LOCAL AGRI-FOOD SYSTEMS.

Presenting Goal 1 of the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan (NFNSP) 2025–2033, Ms Thabile Diphofu, Assistant Director: Food Security, highlighted the importance of mapping producers to better understand the agricultural potential of each district.

Goal 1 focuses on the transformation of local agri-food systems to be sustainable, diversified and inclusive. Understanding the location, activities and potential of producers can support better planning and targeted interventions to strengthen local agri-food systems and contribute to food and nutrition security.

Understanding local potential is key to shaping effective solutions.

Stakeholders in uMngungundlovu District, KwaZulu-Natal, are making valuable contributions to the ongoing consultations on the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan (NFNSP) 2025–2033.

The discussions cover key issues affecting food and nutrition security, including food access, local food systems and the role of indigenous foods in promoting dietary diversity and nutrition.

These contributions are helping to ensure that the Plan is comprehensive, responsive and informed by the diverse needs and realities of districts across South Africa.

The approach seeks to move away from a one-size-fits-all model by ensuring that the Plan responds to the unique circumstances and needs of different districts.

| uMgungundlovu stakeholders help shape South Africa’s food-security future🇿🇦

The National Department of Agriculture is continuing its consultations on the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan (NFNSP) 2025–2033 today in the uMgungundlovu District, KwaZulu-Natal.

The engagement forms part of consultations taking place across various districts in KwaZulu-Natal and throughout the country to gather stakeholders’ experiences, priorities and recommendations. Their input will help identify challenges, strengthen proposed interventions and ensure that the final plan responds to the realities and needs of South Africans.

The department is committed to developing a comprehensive and inclusive plan shaped by input from all relevant stakeholders. The NFNSP is not a plan for government alone, it is a plan for everyone.

The goal is to ensure that all South Africans have access to safe, nutritious and healthy food. Achieving this requires government, communities and other stakeholders to work together and take shared responsibility for building a food- and nutrition-secure South Africa.

Every voice matters. Every contribution counts. Every stakeholder has a role to play.🤝🇿🇦
