Four Finnish experts from the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK) trained in Pretoria during one week´s time representatives from 19 different African Countries on Nuclear Safeguards.
The training relates to a five-year long project of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE; situated in Centurion). Ambassador Pekka Metso hosted an event in their honor at his residence on Tuesday evening.
On Thursday Ambassador Metso delivered a policy speech and was part of the ceremony handing over the certificates to the training participants. He stressed Finland´s role as an active promoter of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and expressed further support to AFCONE when carrying out its ambitious task.

Ambassador Pekka Metso hosted today a warm-hearted farewell lunch in honor of Ambassador Maud Dlomo, the Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. Ambassador Dlomo has in the past years played a crucial role in building bilateral relations between South Africa 🇿🇦 and Finland 🇫🇮.
