❤️ Caring for others shouldn’t depend on whether the power stays on. ⚡

At Ladybrand Hospice, nearly 2 000 meals 🍲 are provided every month to patients and their children. But frequent power disruptions 🔌 and loadshedding put that vital service under pressure.

When fridges and freezers lost power, food could spoil, forcing the hospice to replace supplies more frequently and adding to already high electricity costs. 💰

Through 🇩🇪’s micro-projects scheme, we partnered with Ladybrand HospiceHospice to install a solar system made up of 16 panels ☀️.

The solar system helps keep food safely stored 🥗, reduces the impact of power disruptions ⚡ and supports the hospice in continuing to provide meals 🍲 and palliative care ❤️ to those who need it most.

A small energy solution making a meaningful difference, one meal 🍽️, one patient ❤️ and one family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 at a time. 🌱

💡Africa lit the way, literally.

On 2 September 1882, Kimberley 🇿🇦 made history by becoming the first city in Africa — and the Southern Hemisphere — to switch on electric street lights.

At the height of the diamond rush, the mining hub stepped into the future, illuminating its streets before many major cities around the world had done the same.

More than 140 years later, it remains a remarkable chapter in Africa’s story of innovation and firsts. ⚡🌍

H.E. Oliver Rentschler presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru.

🇩🇪 and 🇱🇸 are connected by many common bonds – from the close proximity of our National Days to a deep appreciation of our natural heritage, and, above all, a strong partnership built on many shared values.

Germany looks forward to further strengthening this longstanding friendship and partnership with Lesotho.

🇷🇺 always says it wants peace. But the reality looks very different.

Illegal recruitment, disinformation campaigns and hybrid warfare — across Africa and Europe. 🌍

In 🇩🇪, Russia’s responsibility for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig Airport has now been confirmed ‼️

On 4 August, an explosives-laden drone was found near a cargo aircraft at the airport. The device was defused, and the airport was temporarily shut down. ✖️

Following the confirmation of Russia’s responsibility, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced new measures against 🇷🇺, including:

✅ closing 🇷🇺 ‘s Consulate General in Bonn
✅ terminating the lease for the Russian House in Berlin
✅ tighter immigration controls for 🇷🇺 nationals
✅ increased pressure on 🇷🇺 shadow fleet
✅ new EU sanctions

Let’s be clear: This state of relations is not in the interest of the German Government.
🇩🇪’s objective has always been to bring Russia’s illegal war to an end, restore peace and security in Europe, and return to constructive relations.

But when there is an attempted attack on 🇩🇪, as in this case, there have to be consequences.

We will therefore continue to strengthen our defences, work with NATO and the EU, and support Ukraine. 🇺🇦

Human rights do not protect themselves. They are universal and protecting them is a shared responsibility. 🤝

That is why Germany is running for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for 2027–2029.

For 🇩🇪, protecting human rights is not an optional part of foreign policy. Our own history has shaped that responsibility, while fundamental rights are firmly anchored in Germany’s Basic Law today.

If elected, Germany will continue working with partners worldwide to protect human rights defenders; strengthen the rule of law and equality; defend freedoms of expression, the press, religion and belief; combat transnational repression; and work towards the abolition of the death penalty. ✅

For 20 years, the UN Human Rights Council has provided a forum where every country’s human rights record can be examined, including our own. Germany has served as an elected member five times and remains committed to a strong international human rights system that holds all states to the same standards.

The annual festival brings together German food, live music, carnival rides and plenty of festival atmosphere. 🎶🎡🇩🇪
