EARLIER TODAY:DPME hosts meeting with CLEAR-AA

The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) convened a meeting with the Centre for Learning on Evaluation and Results – Anglophone Africa (CLEAR-AA), based at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Hosted at the DPME offices in Hatfield, Tshwane, the meeting was initiated at CLEAR-AA’s request to engage with the DPME and gain a deeper understanding of South Africa’s National Evaluation System (NES), which is widely regarded as a leading example of evaluation practice on the continent.

The Minister will form part of the panel discussion on “Skills for a Changing World: Unlocking Employment, Mining and Emerging Economic Opportunities for Youth.”

ICYMI: Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Maropene Ramokgopa, yesterday delivered the Opening Address at the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference at the CTICC in Cape Town, on behalf of Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

The Minister highlighted the significance of South Africa hosting the conference as the country marks 30 Years of Constitutional Democracy, alongside parliamentary leaders from across the Commonwealth.

The CPC runs from 14–18 September 2026 under the theme: “Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: Commonwealth Leadership.”

Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Seiso Mohai, joined Water and Sanitation Minister Ms Pemmy Majodina and Lesotho’s Minister of Natural Resources, Mr Mohlomi Moleko, for an oversight visit to the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase 2 (LHWP2).

The visit included the opening of the Mabunyaneng and Khubelu bridges in Mokhotlong, and monitoring of the Polihali Dam, water transfer tunnel and resettlement sites.

The engagement reinforces DPME’s commitment to regional integration, frontline service delivery monitoring and advancing government plans for improved development outcomes.

📸 DEPUTY MINISTER MOHAI CONDUCTS OVERSIGHT VISIT TO FORENSIC CHEMISTRY LABORATORIES

Yesterday, 10 September 2026, Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Seiso Mohai, conducted a monitoring and oversight visit to the National Health Laboratory Service’s (NHLS) Forensic Chemistry Laboratories in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

The visit assessed progress and challenges in service delivery, with particular focus on delays and backlogs in the processing of toxicology samples, which have implications for the finalisation of medico-legal cases.

Deputy Minister Mohai highlighted the critical role of timely forensic testing in supporting the criminal justice system, including efforts to address gender-based violence and femicide, while assessing the NHLS’s contribution towards government’s health priorities under the Medium-Term Development Plan 2024–2029 and National Development Plan.

The oversight programme included engagements on progress and challenges as well as site walkabouts at both the Pretoria and Johannesburg laboratories.

Melanchton Makobe, addressed ORBIT TVET College’s 2026 Annual Graduation and Certification Ceremony in Rustenburg, calling on graduates to use their skills not only to seek opportunities, but to create opportunities, solve problems and serve their communities.

He encouraged the Class of 2026 to become competent and ethical professionals, entrepreneurs and responsible leaders who put the public interest first.

Acting Director-General of the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Adv. Melanchton Makobe, will today participate as a guest speaker at ORBIT TVET College’s 2026 Annual Graduation and Certification Ceremony in Rustenburg.

The occasion celebrates the achievements of graduates and the important role of education and skills development in preparing young people to participate meaningfully in South Africa’s development.
