We have the global authority to influence decision-makers and the variety of partners at the grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. We believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created wi

th this purpose in mind - to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child's path. UNICEF upholds the Convention of the Rights of the Child. We work to assure equality for those who are discriminated against, girls and women in particular. We work for the Millennium Development Goals and for the progress promised in the United Nations Charter. We strive for peace and security, and work to hold everyone accountable to the promises made for children.

A single player can give us the moment we remember - the goal, the save, the pass, the celebration. 🥳

But no player creates that moment alone.

Behind every standout performance is a team.

UNICEF's work for children is like that, too.

In Eastern and Southern Africa, UNICEF is on the ground, providing safe learning spaces and essential supplies so children can keep learning, growing and thriving.

Across the world, the impact of digital connectivity is shaping communities.

To understand how this affects children and young people, especially in emergencies, UNICEF and Giga called on young creatives from around the globe, including South Africa, to showcase how access to the internet, or the lack of it, shapes decisions, communication and daily life under pressure.

Vaccines protect children from preventable childhood diseases like measles and polio.

In South Africa, we have made much progress in ensuring more children get vaccinated, but we can’t be complacent as hesitancy and misinformation threaten to roll back progress.

Speak to your local healthcare worker to find out more about vaccines and why they are important.

The best investment a country can make is in its children.

UNICEF South Africa and the Financial and Fiscal Commission (South Africa) are joining forces to strengthen child-centred public financing with a clear focus on efficiency and effectiveness in how government budgets are designed and spent.

The goal: making sure public funds work harder for every child, for their health, nutrition, education, safety, and access to clean water.
