At today’s SMME Engagement in Mpumalanga, Siphamandla Mbhele presented key insights into SITA transversal and panel contracts.

The session highlighted the current participation levels of accredited SMMEs within Mpumalanga and demonstrated that representation across several transversal contracts remains limited, creating substantial opportunities for growth and increased local participation.

Discussions focused on:
- Expanding accreditation and representation of Mpumalanga SMMEs
- Leveraging automated SCM processes for improved procurement access
- Addressing participation gaps in transversal contracts
- Understanding common bidding pitfalls affecting SMME success
- Building stronger local manufacturing and innovation ecosystems

The presentation also unpacked common mistakes made during bidding processes, particularly administrative non-compliance and technical/functionality failures. Delegates were advised on the importance of complete compliance documentation, valid OEM authorisations, accurate technical submissions and verifiable track record evidence when responding to bids.

SMMEs were further encouraged to participate in training opportunities offered and to access accredited transversal suppliers through "sita.co.za" for potential collaboration and partnership engagements.

Delegates actively engaged on issues relating to a transversal contract that has been on hold since 2023 and called for greater localisation, open innovation and inclusive procurement practices that prioritise local economic development.
