PUBLIC WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE BUDGET VOTE 2026 TABLED IN THE NCOP
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) today tabled its 2026 Budget Vote before the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in Parliament, Cape Town.
The Budget Vote was presented by Dean Macpherson MP Dean Macpherson, Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, and Sihle Zikalala, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure.
The session was attended by Dibolelo Mance, Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure MEC; Jacob Mamabolo, Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development; and Tertuis Simmers, Western Cape MEC for Infrastructure. Other provincial MECs and Members of Parliament participated virtually.
Following the Budget Vote presentation, Minister Macpherson, joined by Deputy Director-General responsible for the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), Ms Carmen-Joy Abrahams, briefed the media on key departmental priorities. The briefing focused on reforms to the EPWP, including efforts to strengthen recruitment guidelines, improve transparency and fairness in participant selection, and address challenges identified during recent EPWP consultations. The Minister also outlined the Department's decision regarding EPWP funding to eThekwini Municipality and provided updates on ongoing infrastructure and governance matters.
