Deputy Ministers of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Rev. Prince Burns-Ncamashe and Dr Namane Masemola, are participating in Deputy President Paul Mashatile's engagement with Traditional Leaders in Limpopo Province.

The engagement brings together traditional leaders, government representatives, and stakeholders to advance collaboration on matters affecting rural communities, including land reform, rural development, institutional support for traditional leadership, infrastructure development, legislative reforms, and safe customary initiation practices.

The dialogue forms part of government's ongoing commitment to strengthening the institution of traditional leadership and advancing the implementation of key resolutions aimed at improving the lives of communities across South Africa.

Deputy Minister of CoGTA, Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, together with Eastern Cape MEC for CoGTA, Mr Zolile Williams, returned to the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality to assess progress on the implementation of the Section 154 Support Plan.

MINISTER HLABISA MOURNS THE PASSING OF HIS MAJESTY KING MAKHOSOKE II MABHENA OF THE AMANDEBELE KINGSHIP

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Velenkosini Hlabisa, has expressed profound sadness at the passing of His Majesty King Makhosoke II Mabhena of the amaNdebele Kingship.

His Majesty was a revered traditional leader, a custodian of the rich cultural heritage of the amaNdebele nation, and a steadfast advocate for the development and wellbeing of traditional communities. Throughout his reign, he provided leadership that strengthened social cohesion, preserved indigenous knowledge systems, and advanced the institution of traditional leadership.

Minister Hlabisa extends his heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty the Queen, the Royal Family, the amaNdebele Nation, and all those mourning this significant loss.

As South Africa reflects on the life and legacy of His Majesty King Makhosoke II, we honour his lifelong commitment to serving his people and preserving the customs, traditions, and identity of the amaNdebele nation.

Deputy Minister Masemola to visit Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, will today undertake a working visit to the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

Accompanied by the Eastern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Zolile Williams, the Deputy Minister will participate in a Special Mayoral Committee Meeting to engage with the municipality's leadership on governance and service delivery matters.

The engagement forms part of government's ongoing efforts to support the Metro in strengthening its institutional capacity, improving operational effectiveness, and ensuring that residents receive quality municipal services.

The Deputy Minister and the MEC will also introduce the official seconded to the municipality as part of interventions aimed at enhancing municipal performance and stability.

Together, we continue working towards the vision that Every Municipality Must Work.

MINISTER HLABISA TO LEAD DCoG BUDGET VOTE PRESENTATION TO THE NCOP

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Velenkosini Hlabisa, will on 11 June 2026 lead the presentation of the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG) Budget Vote 3 to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

Guided by the theme "Every Municipality Must Work", the Budget Vote reflects government's commitment to rebuilding local government, restoring public confidence in municipalities, and ensuring effective and efficient service delivery across South Africa.

Minister Hlabisa, together with Deputy Minister Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, will outline the Department's priorities, programmes and budget allocations for the 2026/27 financial year.

Key focus areas include:

▪ Strengthening local government capacity
▪ Improving service delivery outcomes
▪ Enhancing accountability and good governance
▪ Supporting municipalities facing financial and governance challenges
▪ Accelerating local economic development
▪ Improving infrastructure provision
▪ Advancing cooperative governance across all spheres of government
