ANC WOMEN’S LEAGUE NATIONAL VOLUNTEER LAUNCH: 2026 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS
The National Volunteer Launch of the 2026 Local Government Elections holds profound historical significance as it coincides with the anniversary of the adoption of the Freedom Charter in 1955.
Women played a pivotal role in the struggle that gave birth to the Charter, organising communities, mobilising resistance against apartheid and ensuring that the aspirations of women and families were reflected in the vision of a democratic South Africa.
The Freedom Charter’s declaration that “South Africa belongs to all who live in it” remains a guiding principle in our ongoing struggle for equality, dignity and social justice.
For women of the ANC Women’s League, commemorating the Freedom Charter anniversary is both a celebration of the sacrifices of our foremothers and a recommitment to the unfinished task of achieving the full social, economic and political emancipation of women. It reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy today were won through collective struggle and that it remains our responsibility to defend and advance those gains for future generations.
Together, let us advance decisive action towards the full liberation and emancipation of women, strengthen our movement and mobilise every community in pursuit of a decisive ANC victory in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
