Pagpupugay sa buhay, talino, at kabayanihan ni Dr. Jose Rizal! 🇵🇭✨

Ngayong araw ng paggunita sa kaniyang kapanganakan, ating inaalala ang buhay at mga ambag ni Dr. Jose Rizal—isang manunulat, iskolar, at bayani na nagmulat sa kamalayan ng mga Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng kaniyang mga salita at kaisipan.

Isinilang si Jose Rizal noong 19 Hunyo 1861 sa Calamba, Laguna. Pampito sa 11 anak nina Francisco Mercado at Teodora Alonso, ipinamalas niya ang pambihirang talino at pagmamahal sa bayan sa pamamagitan ng panitikan, pag-aaral, at pagsusulong ng pagbabago.

Bilang isa sa mga pangunahing personalidad ng Kilusang Propaganda, naging aktibo siya sa pagsulat para sa La Solidaridad. Sa kaniyang mga nobelang Noli me tangere (1887) at El filibusterismo (1891), inilantad niya ang mga suliranin at pang-aabuso sa ilalim ng pamamahalang Español, na nagbigay-daan sa mas malalim na pag-unawa sa kalagayan ng lipunan noong kaniyang panahon.

Si Dr. Jose Rizal ay nananatiling isa sa mga mahalagang Sagisag Kultura ng Pilipinas -- isang inspirasyon sa patuloy na pagpapalawig ng kaalaman, pagpapapatibay sa ating pagkakakilanlan, at pagpapalalim ng ating pagmamahal sa bayan.

PRETORIA, 18 June 2026 – The Philippine Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa successfully convened the Inaugural Virtual Consultation Meeting with Philippine Honorary Consular Officers on 16 June 2026 bringing together Embassy officials, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) Office of Middle East and African Affairs and Human Resources Management Office, Department of Agriculture through the Agricultural Attaché, and PH Honorary Consular Officers across the African Region.

The consultation meeting served as a platform to strengthen coordination, align programs and priorities, exchange best practices, and further enhance the delivery of consular and public services across the Embassy’s areas of responsibility.

In her welcome remarks, H.E. Ambassador Myla Grace Ragenia C. Macahilig, CM II underscored the valuable role of Honorary Consular Officers as the Embassy’s partners in advancing Philippine interests, supporting the Filipino community, and strengthening bilateral relations in their respective jurisdictions.

The consultation was attended by representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, including officials from the Office of Middle East and African Affairs - Southwest African Division and Human Resources Management Office - Honorary Consuls and Service Attachés Division (HRMO-HCSAD). Mr. Michael R. Sollera, Agricultural Attaché of the Department of Agriculture based in Dubai, also participated as resource speaker.

Participating Philippine Honorary Consular Officers included:

• Mr. Steven David Chaimowitz, Philippine Honorary Consul General in Cape Town, South Africa

• Dr. Audrey Patricia Chui Wan Cheong, Philippine Honorary Consul in Port Louis, Mauritius (represented by Ms. Farheen Joomratty)

• Ms. Annelin C. Vista, Philippine Honorary Consul in Gaborone, Botswana

• Mr. Francisco A. Inaque, Philippine Honorary Consul-Nominee in Maputo, Mozambique

The program featured presentations from the Agricultural Attaché Office based in Dubai, and from the invited offices from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila covering updates relevant to the work and operations of Honorary Consular Offices, followed by an open forum that enabled productive exchanges among participants.

The meeting concluded with closing remarks and words of appreciation delivered by Mr. Jim G. Minglana, FSO I, First Secretary and Consul and Head of the Political and Economic Section.

The Embassy expressed its appreciation to all participating offices and Honorary Consular Officers for their continued partnership and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining regular consultations to strengthen collaboration and promote responsive and effective service delivery throughout its jurisdiction.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joins the Filipino people in commemorating the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

In his message, the President calls on Filipinos to draw inspiration from the nation’s heroes and work together in advancing the common good.
