AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS YOUTH LEAGUE (ANCYL)
NORTHERN CAPE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
09 MARCH 2025
STATEMENT OF THE ANCYL NORTHERN CAPE FOLLOWING THE ALLEGATION OF R**E AND A SUBSEQUENT ARREST OF ONE ITS PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (PEC) MEMBERS.
The ANCYL in the Northern Cape has learnt of allegations and a subsequent arrest of one its PEC members following a successful conclusion of its 10th PEC Induction and Meeting, in the Barkley West area, in Dikgatlong sub-region, Frances Baard.
Following the reports on the incident, though we (ANCYL PEC) are not in possession of the finer details of the ordeal, we are deeply disturbed and outraged by such news. The acts of violence against children, women, youth, and other disadvantaged groups in society continues unabated, despite various efforts put in place by the organisation and government to avert the scourge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The ANCYL in the Northern Cape takes special exception into this matter especially because the alleged perpetrator is a provincial leader and ought to understand better. It is not even enough to speak of GBV ills and leaders of the ANCYL in one sentence. It is uncalled for. The members of the ANCYL and its leaders ought to be defenders of women in society; ought to hold themselves with so much integrity that they may not be seen to cause trouble in society.
We would like to send our heartfelt best wishes to the family of the victim. These incidents leave lasting scars to family and loved ones. As such, the ANCYL will liaise with the relevant authorities in the Dikgatlong region to ensure that the victim and the family receive the necessary psycho-social support in these difficult moments.
Subsequent to what transpired. The ANCYL in the Northern Cape has since delebarated to exhaust its internal disciplinary
processes to demonstrate its commitment to fight GBV and R**e.
The ANCYL in the province further call on the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the Law Enforcement officers to speedily look into the matter by applying the law most accurately. In fact, the ANCYL calls on the security and law forces to expedite investigations into all GBV cases so as to prosecute and arrest all the perpetrators of this horrible pandemic.
