SHAPING THE FUTURE OF GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATION: DAY 1 OF THE PROVINCIAL COMMUNICATORS FORUM UNDERWAY 🔵🟡🟣

Communicators from municipalities, government departments and public entities across KwaZulu-Natal have gathered for the Provincial Communicators Forum, convened by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and SALGA.

The forum serves as an important platform to strengthen government communication, share best practices and enhance the effectiveness of public engagement across all spheres of government.

Day One featured insightful presentations and discussions on a range of critical topics, including the findings of the Public Perception Tracker Survey, Mastering the Art of Government Communications, the relationship between Local Government Elections and Service Delivery Protests, as well as strategies for combating misinformation and disinformation in the digital age.

The engagements highlighted the vital role communicators play in ensuring that citizens receive accurate, timely and credible information while promoting transparency, accountability and public trust in government institutions.

The forum continues to equip government communicators with the tools and knowledge required to effectively communicate service delivery initiatives and respond to the evolving information landscape.

The Ugu District Municipality today convened its Extended Management Committee Meeting at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre, bringing together municipal management to assess organisational performance, review strategic priorities, and strengthen service delivery across the district.

The meeting served as an important platform to monitor progress on key programmes and projects, address operational challenges, and ensure that municipal plans continue to translate into tangible benefits for communities.

UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY AND STANDARD BANK PARTNER TO INVEST IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT 🟡🟣🔵

The Ugu District Municipality is proud to announce a partnership with Standard Bank in the delivery of a R3 million Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre that will serve local families and create a brighter future for young children in our communities.

This significant investment demonstrates the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing community development and improving the quality of life for residents.

In addition to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, the project has already created employment opportunities for four local community members, contributing to economic empowerment and skills development within the area.

The completed facility will be officially handed over to the community on 17 July 2026 as part of the Municipality’s Nelson Mandela Day commemorations, symbolising a lasting legacy of hope, education, and community upliftment.

The Ugu District Municipality extends its sincere appreciation to Standard Bank for partnering in this impactful initiative, which reflects our shared commitment to investing in future generations and building stronger, more resilient communities.

WORKING TOGETHER FOR BETTER WATER SERVICES: MAYOR MQADI MEETS WITH WARD 35 COMMUNITY

In an effort to promote public participation, transparency, and accountability, Ugu District Municipality Mayor, Cllr Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, today led a delegation officials during a community feedback meeting held at the AB Gigaba Hall in Izingolweni ward 35.

The engagement formed part of the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to keeping communities informed on matters affecting service delivery, particularly water services. Residents were provided with feedback on current water-related matters, ongoing interventions, and future plans aimed at improving the reliability and sustainability of water supply within the area.

Through open and constructive dialogue, the Municipality continues to strengthen relationships with residents while ensuring that community voices remain at the centre of decision making.

🚰 MAYOR MQADI ENGAGES MLOZANE COMMUNITY ON WATER MATTERS 🟣🟡

Ugu District Municipality Mayor, Cllr Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, together with municipal manager, Mr Vela Mazibuko and water services officials today met with the Mlozane community in Izingolweni during a community feedback engagement aimed at addressing water supply challenges affecting the area.

The meeting provided residents with an opportunity to engage directly with the Municipality, raise concerns, and receive feedback on interventions being implemented to improve water supply and service delivery within the community.

Mayor Mqadi reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to restoring reliable water services and ensuring communities remain informed through continuous engagement and transparent communication. Discussions also focused on current system challenges, infrastructure interventions, and plans underway to strengthen water provision in the affected areas.

The Ugu District Municipality today convened a sitting of the Sound Governance and Human Resources Portfolio Committee bringing together political leadership, traditional leadership, senior management, and oversight structures to deliberate on matters critical to governance, institutional performance, and service delivery within the district.

The Sound Governance Portfolio Committee, chaired by Executive Council Member, Cllr Mthokozisi Ngwane, plays a vital role in ensuring accountability, transparency, ethical governance, and effective oversight within the municipality. Through these engagements, the committee monitors institutional performance, governance compliance, human resource matters, and strategic interventions aimed at improving service delivery to communities across the district.

The Municipality remains committed to strengthening good governance, promoting collaborative leadership, and ensuring that municipal programmes and operations continue to respond to the needs of residents while advancing sustainable development within the Ugu District.
