DISTEMPER
We have recently seen an increase in suspected and confirmed cases of canine distemper in our area.
Distemper is a highly contagious viral disease that can affect a dog's respiratory, digestive and nervous systems. Sadly, it is often fatal, especially in unvaccinated puppies and dogs.
⚠️ Watch for these signs:
• Fever
• Runny nose or eyes
• Coughing
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Lethargy
• Tremors or seizures
• Muscle twitching
• Disorientation or circling
🚨 If your dog shows any of these symptoms, seek veterinary attention immediately.
💉 The good news? Distemper is preventable.
Vaccinating your dog is the best protection against this devastating disease.
✅ Ensure your pet's vaccinations are up to date.
✅ Keep puppies away from unvaccinated dogs until fully vaccinated.
✅ Maintain good hygiene by regularly cleaning bowls, bedding and living areas.
Please help us protect our community's pets by sharing this information with friends, family and neighbours.
