Your rental agreement is for an indefinite period and can continue for as long as you, or your remaining spouse, live there. If your circumstances change, you also have the flexibility to end the lease with one month’s notice. It’s an option designed to give you the security of knowing where home is, without the commitment of purchasing a property.

Scams should be reported, even when the amount lost seems small or the attempt was unsuccessful. Contact your bank when banking information or money is involved. Suspected criminal activity can also be reported at your nearest police station. Call 10111 when immediate police assistance is required or contact Crime Stop anonymously on 08600 10111. Keep screenshots, messages, telephone numbers and proof of payment to support your report. Speaking up may help investigators identify a pattern and prevent someone else from becoming the next victim.

A caller may know your name, where you bank or other personal details. This does not automatically mean the call is genuine. When someone claims to represent your bank, insurance company, medical aid or another organisation, do not use the number they provide to verify their identity. End the call immediately and contact the organisation directly using a trusted number from your bank card, statement, official app or website. Do not feel rude for hanging up. Protecting your personal information is more important than being polite to an unexpected caller.
