Breaking the Silence, Building a Legacy of Strength: Reflections on Our Community Gathering in Helenvale.

This weekend, something powerful and truly inspiring happened at the Helenvale Barcelona Youth Center. Our city's heart beat as one.

The collective energy was palpable as a diverse, united community came together, shoulder to shoulder, with a clear purpose: to say a resounding 'NO' to Gender-Based Violence. This wasn't just an event; it was the birth of a movement. We came together to listen, to heal, and to build an unbreakable shield of community strength.

The most critical outcome is the foundation we've laid: a foundation where every woman, man, and child in Helenvale feels safe, supported, and empowered to raise their voice against abuse.

This success is a shining testament to the profound difference nonprofit work can make when it is fueled by collaboration with strategic stakeholders. We are deeply grateful to our partners whose commitment made this day possible:

Healing Hands Community Project (celebrating 15 years of care!)

South African Police Service Galvendale
Galvandale Victim Support
Barcelona Youth Center
Department of Correctional Services, Republic of South Africa
Mandela Bay Development Agency
Continental Butchery My SPAR Astron Energy William Moffett and Ashley Teirfly, Oswald Prince all nonprofit and faith based organizations that took part in this event.

This powerful alliance nonprofits, law enforcement, government, and development agencies working with the community is the blueprint for sustained change.

The benefits extend far beyond a single weekend. The momentum we generated is now the springboard for our future plans: developing and expanding our comprehensive protection and awareness programs. Our mission is to ensure every woman across our city, our province, and our country can stand as tall as the women of Helenvale, knowing they are safe and herd.

Thank you to all who brought your voices and stood for safety. We still care, and we are only just beginning. Keep an eye on this space for our next steps! Together, we will build a safer future.

Today, on Human Rights Day, we reflect on what it truly means to stand for dignity, equality, and access to basic needs for every person in our community.

At Healing Hands Community Project, this day is deeply personal.

For 15 years, we have been on the ground, working to restore hope where it has been lost, to serve where there is need, and to stand alongside those whose basic human rights are often overlooked. From food security to community support, our mission has always been rooted in one belief: every human being deserves care, respect, and the opportunity to live with dignity.

Human rights are not just words in a constitution. They are the daily reality of a child who has food to eat, a family that feels supported, and a community that knows it has not been forgotten.

As we mark this important day in South Africa, we renew our commitment to continue this work. Not just today, but every day.

15 years strong. Still serving. Still believing in humanity.

Healing Hands Community Project remains steadfast in our support for the survivors of gender-based violence. We continue to stand with the mother and family affected by the 2020 sexual assault of a minor by her father as this case finally returns to court.

Justice is a collective responsibility. Yesterday we were in court for the case and we we thank the bi-partisan support from the MK Party and other political organizations in the Nelson Mandela Metro who have joined us in this cause. When we stand together, we ensure that our legal system protects the most vulnerable members of our society.

We invite the Nelson Mandela Metro community to join us in solidarity at the court on 24 March 2026. Our presence ensures the family does not stand alone and that the demand for accountability remains clear.

Today we celebrate the strength, courage, and impact of women in our communities.

This **International Women’s Day**, Healing Hands Community Project honors the women of Gqeberha who lead, care, support families, and uplift those around them every single day.

Women are the heart of our communities. They nurture hope, create opportunities, and inspire the next generation. At Healing Hands Community Project, we see this power daily through the women who volunteer, support one another, and work tirelessly to build a stronger and healthier community.

Today is a reminder that when women are supported, communities grow stronger.

We celebrate every mother, caregiver, leader, volunteer, and young girl with a dream. Your strength matters. Your voice matters. Your future matters.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Happy Friday. Before we all disappear into weekend mode, we need a quick family meeting.

If you know someone who is currently looking for a job, tag them below. This might help them avoid missing their next opportunity.

We recently posted a job opening at Healing Hands Community Project.

The response was incredible.
Our community is full of talent. Skilled, capable, hardworking people.

But we also discovered something that honestly broke our hearts a little.

About 70% of the applications we received were photos of CVs.

Photos.

Taken on phones.

We received:
• blurry ones
• sideways ones
• one with a thumb in the corner
• and one that looked like the CV was photographed on a bed

We respect the hustle. But the presentation matters.

We also received applications with no email message at all. Just an attachment.

And several had no introduction or cover letter. Nothing that tells the employer who you are or why you are applying.

Now here is the reality check that many people are never told.

A photo of your CV is basically invisible to most employers.

Many companies use software that scans CVs before a human sees them. If your CV is a photo, the system cannot read it.

Your qualifications might be perfect.
Your experience might be exactly what the company needs.

But your application never reaches a real person.

You don’t get rejected.
You simply disappear from the process.

And this is a painful reality in South Africa.

We don’t have a shortage of talent.
We often have a shortage of information about how the system works.

So here is your Friday fix-it list before the weekend starts.

① Always send your CV as a PDF.
A PDF keeps your CV clean and readable on any device.

Not a photo.
Not a screenshot.

A proper PDF.

② Only have a phone? You are still sorted.
Download Adobe Scan or Microsoft Lens. They are free.

You scan the document and it turns it into a professional PDF in seconds.

③ Write an actual email when you apply.
An empty email with a random attachment does not tell the employer anything.

Just write something simple:

“Good day. Please find my CV attached. I would appreciate the opportunity to be considered for the position.”

Two sentences can make a big difference.

④ Ask for help if you need it.
A library, a community centre, a friend who works in an office, or someone with HR experience.

There is no shame in asking. The people who move forward are often the ones who ask questions.

Losing a life-changing opportunity because of a blurry photo is not a talent problem.

It is a fixable problem.

So this weekend, take a few minutes and fix your CV.

Because South Africa has the talent.
We just need the applications to show it.

And please keep applying. We are genuinely rooting for you.

One quick question before you go:

Did anyone ever teach you how to properly send a CV, or did you have to figure it out on your own?

Drop a YES or NO in the comments.
