Revolutionary Greetings, Student Populace of Mandela.

We hope this communique finds you well. Following a two-day protest during which our student leaders remained on the ground fighting for the reinstatement of the Summerstrand shuttles, we are pleased to announce a victory for students.

The Summerstrand shuttles will now be fully operational while management continues engagements with relevant stakeholders regarding the matter.
This development reflects the power of student unity, consistent mobilisation, and collective action in defending the interests and safety of the student community.

We are still engaging with regards to shuttle stickers , students being unfailly defunded . More updates coming soon.

Greetings Students of Nelson Mandela University

I hope this communication finds you well.

We would like to make it clear that we will not rest until your demands are met. We will continue fighting until every student receives what they deserve.

The defunded students must have their funding restored. Unfunded students must be allowed to utilize the shuttle services without being required to have shuttle stickers, and the Summerstrand residence shuttles must be reinstated.

We started this struggle in February, and we are prepared to fight until the very end. We will finish what we have started, and we promise you one thing — KUZOGCINA THINA!!!

We can all see that DASO is now trying to confuse students and act as if this struggle belongs to them. While they are busy lighting fires at night when management is sleeping peacefully, we were on the ground during the day directly confronting management and demanding that they reconsider their decisions. During those crucial moments, DASO was nowhere to be found.

They choose to act at night because they are afraid to confront the university directly. That does not surprise us because we all know they are nothing more than university puppets.

How do you claim to be fighting for students while striking at night when no one can even witness your actions? How does that place real pressure on management? These actions are nothing more than political games meant to confuse students.

As EFFYC, we remain committed to leading students toward victory and justice. We will continue standing with students until every demand is met.

♦️ DEFUNDED STUDENTS UPDATE ♦️

Revolutionary Greetings Students of Nelson Mandela University.

After months of engaging the university management to no avail, the EFFYC leadership has escalated the matter of students being wrongfully defunded. The leadership formally wrote to our Member of Parliament, Commissar Naledi Chirwa, who has since directed a letter to the Minister of Higher Education, Buti Manamela.

We attempted to engage the university through all available internal processes and exhausted every option within our capacity. Meanwhile, students continue to face evictions while NMU management remains arrogant and ignorant to the realities confronting poor students. Now the matter has gained national attention. Shine, NMU management, shine.

We warned management that we would deal decisively with this matter, yet our warnings were treated as jokes.
This is only the beginning.
Next, we are coming for the accreditation of bogus residences.

♦️Mother's Day Celebration ♦️

Revolutionary greetings students of Mandela.

The EFFYC NMU extends its warmest gratitude and heartfelt wishes as we celebrate Mother's Day.

We wish each and every Mother in the Republic a day of honor and appreciation for their gift of life, strength, sacrifice and guidance to a greater and better future.

We further extend our wishes to a heavenly Mother's day to our departed mothers and we remain in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who have unfortunately lost their Mothers.

We unequivocally retariate as Thomas sankara said that "There is no true social revolution without the liberation of women", as they are the backbone of society and they give birth to life.

We therefore give our unconditional thanks to our Mothers.

Thank you, Mother. Dankie, Ma. Ngiyabonga, Mama. Enkosi, Mama. Ke a leboha, 'M'e. Ke a leboga, Mme. Ke a leboga, Mme. Ngiyabonga, Mama. Ndi a livhuwa, Mme. Ndza khensa, Manana. Ngiyathokoza, Mama.

♦️ S’LUNGIS’ UKUHLALA CAMPAIGN ♦️

The EFFYC NMU notes with serious concern the terrible state of many NSFAS and NMU-accredited off-campus residences. The recent floods exposed the reality that many of these buildings were never fit to accommodate students in the first place.

We note the shocking conditions at OceanView, PSA and MetroRes, where thousands of students continue to live under unsafe and exploitative conditions while landlords profit from student suffering.

It is against this background that the EFFYC officially launches the S’lungis’ Ukuhlala Campaign aimed at holding landlords and residence managers accountable. Students are encouraged to send:

• Residence name and location
• Photos/videos of the issue
Submissions can be sent to:
• Zukhanye Mpofu – 073 808 5929
• Lilitha Minnaar – 067 281 3278

One residence at a time. We will deal with them decisively. As the EFFYC we stand in solidarity with affected students, they are us and we are them

Yours in Revolution.

♦️Postponement of Assessments ♦️

Revolutionary greetings once again, students of Mandela.

We've noted that there are lecturers who are still expecting students to write their assessments nor tests in these weather conditions.
Following the recent storm damage, Prof Muki Moeng, DVC: Learning and Teaching, has confirmed that the DoS have been asked to communicate with all faculties to postpone all assessments scheduled for this week. This is to accommodate students who have been negatively affected.

To students who are still expected to write this week;
Please send your lecturer’s name, module code, and contact details to the Deputy President of the SRC, [email protected] so that he can follow up and ensure no one is left behind in the postponement arrangements.

Stay safe, and look out for further updates from your faculties and lecturers.

♦️ MMS VICTORY: MMS IS NOW OPTIONAL IN ALL CAMPUS RESIDENCES ♦️

Revolutionary greetings, students of Nelson Mandela University.

The EFF Youth Command notes with absolute disdain the reckless and premature celebrations by certain student formations who rushed to claim victory on the question of MMS being made optional, without ensuring that such a resolution is practically implemented on the ground.

Through sustained and ongoing engagements with the institution, the EFFYC has ensured that MMS is now optional to each and every student residing on campus without exception. Whether you are a first-year, second-year, third-year, or postgraduate student, no one is compelled to participate in MMS. This position is clear and non-negotiable.

Victory is not declared in statements and slogans; victory is measured by material change in the lived realities of students. What we are witnessing from others is nothing but empty populism, student leaders more concerned with optics than with the actual conditions faced by students in residences.

The EFFYC has always maintained that policy without implementation is meaningless. Declaring MMS “optional” without clear communication, systems in place, and enforcement mechanisms is a betrayal of students. It creates confusion, opens the door for continued coercion, and ultimately protects the very system we seek to dismantle. No student should be subjected to MMS without their consent or voice.

♦️In Pictures ♦️

The EFFYC NMU extends revolutionary greetings to all students of Nelson Mandela University.

Upon learning of the conditions of Oceanview Golden Mile Residence, The North end task team conducted an immediate oversight to assess student living conditions. The conditions observed are unacceptable and fall below the minimum standard of dignity and safety that students deserve.

As the Youth Command, we maintain that it is unjust for students to be subjected to such conditions. We have since scheduled a formal meeting with Oceanview management to address the state of the residence and to establish clear recommendations for urgent intervention.

Our mandate remains the protection and advancement of student welfare. We urge all students experiencing poor living conditions to report to EFFYC representatives below for immediate response:

North End: Iviwe [+27 64 058 2294]
Town: Sinenhlanhla [+27 65 663 2101]
Central: Alulutho [ +27 63 876 4966]
Summerstrand: Kamva [+27 79 389 9721]
Korsten: Khabazela [+27 79 619 8869]

We remain committed to acting in the best interest of students at all times.

♦️ First-Year Laptop Distribution Update♦️

The Office of the SRC Deputy President, representing the EFF Youth Command, has engaged with the ICT Department following multiple student concerns regarding the delay in the distribution of first-year laptops.

We acknowledge that, to date, a significant number of first-year students have not yet received their laptops. This has raised concerns about equitable access to academic resources, particularly for students who are unable to use on-campus computer facilities due to transport limitations.

After consultation with the relevant ICT staff, we have been assured that the distribution of laptops will commence on Monday, 4 May 2026. The appointed service provider, SDI, has confirmed that they will distribute 150 laptops per day, From Monday.

First-year students are therefore advised to monitor their official university email accounts from Monday onwards for notification of their individual collection dates and venue.

We remain committed to ensuring that all students receive the necessary resources to support their academic success.
