Media Statement

Statement by the ANC in Waterberg on the act of arson on a pipeline and the appointment of the new Mayor of Lephalale.

The ANC in Waterberg condemns with disdain an act of arson on an interim pipeline that supplies water to the Marapong community, in Lephalale. This pipeline has been commissioned as part of the newly elected Mayor’s temporary efforts to alleviate the people of Marapong from deepening water catastrophe.

The ANC views this cowardice act as a desperate ploy by unscrupulous crooks who are hell-bent on sabotaging the newly appointed Mayor of the Lephalale Municipality, Cde Thabitha Modise together with her Executive Council.

The ANC condemns this mischievous act of destroying public property with the contempt it deserves, and calls upon organs of civil society to report such incidents with the Police.

It borders on undermining the government's efforts to ameliorate ‘what was close to becoming a human crisis’ in Lephalale.

The intervention by the Municipality into the Marapong water crisis is a demonstration by Cde Thabitha and her collective to find permanent workable solutions to the challenges facing the people of Lephalale.

The ANC in Waterberg has confidence in Cde Thabitha Modise, who has over the years demonstrated a full comprehension of the policies of the congress movement and the municipal council’s operations.

She has occupied numerous leadership roles in the council, which has fully prepared her for this ultimate position of being a Mayor. The ANC in Waterberg wishes her well and is confident that her tenure will restore the people of Lephalale’s confidence into the ANC.

End.
